Government seeks to develop cyber security profession with new consultation

Published on: 30 Jul 2018

A new consultation aimed at developing cyber security as a profession in the UK has been launched by the government.

Running until the end of August, the consultation proposes the creation of a new UK Cyber Security Council, which will be responsible for directing the cyber security profession in Britain.

It also aims to summarise the government’s understanding of the challenges facing the development of the cyber security profession, as well as seek views on objectives for the vocation to deliver by 2021 and beyond.

The government will use responses to the consultation to support its proposals and inform next steps.

A statement from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport read: “Cyber security professionals in the UK are already among some of the best in the world, but the need to further develop the right skills, capabilities and professionalism to meet our national needs across the whole economy is increasingly important.”
