Android security boosted with free secure connection app

Published on: 16 Aug 2017

A new freemium app designed to protect data transmitted over the internet by Android users has been made available by Kaspersky Lab.

Named Kaspersky Secure Connection for Android, the app allows users to apply additional protection when using certain websites and apps by encrypting sensitive data such as account passwords, photos, private correspondence, web history and online purchases.

Free users receive up to 200MB of encrypted traffic a day for each device for an unlimited number of devices. This increases to 300MB per day when registered on the My Kaspersky portal.

Paid users enjoy offers unlimited traffic for five devices for one month or one year, depending on the subscription chosen.

This new app has been developed in response to research that suggests more than one in four (28 per cent) of the world’s Wi-Fi networks are unsafe.

Andrei Mochola, head of consumer business at Kaspersky Lab, said: “Mobile devices are most often used to connect to unfamiliar Wi-Fi networks, which makes traffic encryption imperative.”

He added that the solution would protect data transmission on the world's most popular mobile operating system, protecting users’ financial operations and precious data regardless of their location.

An equivalent for iOS devices should be available by the end of 2017.
