Half of consumers don’t password-protect their mobile devices

More than half (52 per cent) of consumers are leaving themselves wide open by not setting a password for their mobile devices.

That’s according to Kaspersky Lab, whose research also found that only 22 per cent of consumers have anti-theft solutions installed on their phones.

As a result, pickpockets could hit the jackpot if they manage to swipe one of these unsecured devices, given how much today’s consumers relies on its gadgets.

For example, 35 per cent of people use their smartphone for online banking, while 57 per cent regularly use their phone to access personal email accounts.

A spokesperson for Kaspersky Lab said: “Our connected devices are valuable items that criminals naturally want to get their hands on, and their job is made easier by the fact that every other pickpocketed phone is not password-protected.

“By applying password protection and using a dedicated security solution, including anti-theft protection, you can protect your personal information, photos and online accounts from both loss and malicious usage.”
