McAfee has introduced a range of new features to its home consumer security software in a bid to better address the threats facing today’s connected users.

The company’s core security suite - which includes McAfee AntiVirus Plus, McAfee Internet Security, McAfee Total Protection and McAfee LiveSafe - now boasts better anti-malware protection and a fully redesigned user interface.

Meanwhile, changes to McAfee’s Android products result in enhanced Wi-Fi security and ransomware removal.

McAfee says these improvements make its solutions deliver even more efficient and effective protection from digital threats, while the engine’s cloud-based behavioral analytics and machine learning capabilities continue to expand.

According to research from McAfee, ransomware has grown 59 per cent in the past four quarters to 9.6 million samples, with total mobile malware up by 79 per cent over the same period to 16.7 million samples.

John Giamatteo, executive vice president for McAfee’s consumer business group, said: “People intuitively know they need security software to help keep them safe online, but for them to install and keep it activated, it must work well without adversely impacting device performance.

“McAfee’s vision is to protect everything that matters to consumers with solutions that go beyond traditional anti-virus protection for PCs and mobile devices. With our expanded lineup, we’re delivering security solutions that meets the needs of today’s digital lifestyle.”
