New cyber security innovation centre to open in London early 2018

Published on: 25 Jul 2017

The UK government will invest almost £15 million into developing a new cyber security innovation centre in London.

Expected to open in early 2018, the centre will see established firms working alongside cutting-edge startups and its opening is tipped to provide a big boost to London’s booming tech sector, which attracted £5.6 billion of investment in the first half of 2017.

It is estimated that one new tech firm forms in London every hour.

Up to £14.5 million will be invested over the next three years to bolster the UK’s cyber security defences, with a view to helping make the UK the best place to start and grow a digital business.

Startups will benefit from access to expert technical mentoring, business support and advice to help them to grow in their early stages and contribute to the UK’s thriving £22 billion cyber security sector.

Minister for digital Matt Hancock commented: “Our investment in a new cyber innovation centre will not only cement the city’s position as a world leader but also boost the whole country by giving UK firms access to the latest cyber technology and allowing start-ups to get the support they need to develop.”
