Skilled ex-armed forces personnel offered free cyber security training

Published on: 16 Mar 2018

People who have left or retired from Britain’s armed forces are being offered free cyber security training.

Set up by Tech Vets, the Veterans Digital Cyber Academy is a new programme designed to make better use of the transferable skills acquired by veterans and service leavers during their time serving in the UK armed forces.

More than 15,000 people leave the UK military every year and it is believed that there are currently over 900,000 working-age veterans based in the UK.

The transferable skills of the veteran community, such as unrivalled leadership, crisis management and problem-solving skills, can play a massive contribution to the future of the UK’s tech, cyber security and startup sectors; this new programme hopes to get more ex-armed forces personnel into these industries.

Mark Milton - a tech design specialist and one of the programme’s founders - said the programme will help address the UK’s skills shortage in cyber security.

“The UK government is committed to making the UK a secure and resilient digital nation, this programme supports that goal by recognising the unrealised human potential of our veteran community to address our cyber skills shortage,” he commented.
