Atkins - Cranfield Chair in Cyber-Secure Engineering Systems and Processes

In collaboration with Atkins, Cranfield University is now seeking to appoint a new professorial position to develop Research and Education in Cyber-Secure Engineering Systems and Processes. This appointment will support the development of a ‘cyber-secure engineering systems and processes’ research facility at Cranfield and support Atkins in R&D, knowledge transfer, business development and specialist delivery.
With increasing connectivity in complex engineering systems and processes on one hand, and growing cyber threats on the other hand, there is an urgent need to address the challenges associated with cyber-secure engineering systems and processes. The purpose of the job is to provide global thought leadership in cyber-secure engineering for research and education. The post will enhance the research portfolio within the Manufacturing Informatics Centre, and contribute significantly to the MSc in Cyber-Secure Manufacturing. It will also support Atkins and contribute across Cranfield Manufacturing and the university and develop complementary capability in cyber-secure engineering system and processes.
The candidate will have demonstrable experience and leadership in at least one of the following research areas:
- Design of secure engineering processes which embed security and provide through-life assurance
- Active assessment and management of control systems / SCADA risks
- Security of Internet of Things (IoT) devices and systems within industrial settings
Candidates will be thought-leaders of international standing within the world of cyber-secure engineering systems and processes. They will be capable of being fully research active, with the ability to draw in large national and international research projects. They will also strengthen Cranfield’s international reputation for excellence in manufacturing.
You will have a PhD in computing, engineering, cyber security or related area. You must have demonstrable excellent understanding of the contribution and nature of the relationships between cyber, personnel and physical security in delivering robust cyber-secure engineering systems and processes. You will have experience in outstanding leadership of a research group or team including experience in developing a research team and writing proposals. You must demonstrate an established track record of securing significant research funding from research councils (or international equivalents), government and industry and world-class academic track record in areas within cyber-secure engineering systems and processes.
