About The Team
The team is responsible for delivering in-sourced IT infrastructure solutions for the business, with a focus on select services that enable our engineering teams and their development and production systems. This spans an international workforce to provide global and localised services. The team itself is also internationally distributed. We are organised around a product team structure with roles focussed on delivery, engineering and architecture.

About The Role
The Linux Engineer will work across our deployed technologies used to build up the services in scope for the product team. This is a multi-functional role that works with a Product Team to deliver business value through a high quality product using optimized-flow delivery models based on Agile practices such as Scrum and Kanban.
Primarily working with linux infrastructure technologies, the Linux Engineer will be responsible for the whole lifecycle, covering deployment, maintenance, change, break-fix, continuous improvement and decommissioning. Design responsibilities also exist within the role, under the supervision and direction of the product architect. A key aspect of the role will be to practically endorse, support and implement re-usable patterns, utilising infrastructure as code so that future deployments can be delivered trough automation and code-reuse.
Linux Engineers will have a deep understanding of the deployed infrastructure, its use-cases and how it brings benefits to the users of the service, they will live and breathe the Agile manifesto and will use processes, tools and culture to continuously improve what they do and how they work.

What You Will Be Doing

The Linux Engineer will

  • Developing, configuring, deploying & supporting our infrastructure services. Whilst there will be a focus on working with our Linux platform the role will have responsibilities across our entire technology portfolio.
  • Writing scripts and other automation artefacts to enable future re-use, either within the same platform or other segregated platforms
  • Documentation of deployed systems, scripts and other working practices to enable re-use and support across the international team
  • Support for our engineering teams in their use of Linux
  • Configuration control and documentation of the infrastructure.
  • Management of the Development and test environments.
  • Administering the supporting infrastructure required for Linux (Yum etc)
  • Resolving incidents within agreed service levels.
  • Review establish and adhere to appropriate governance and configuration control
  • Driving issue resolution and resolve underpinning problems
  • Technical liaison with internal development and client integration teams.
  • Manage and prepare test environments.
  • Working as a senior resource in a friendly team the successful candidate will be supporting a growing environment.

  • An eagerness to learn enough about the product and its roadmap
  • Passion for doing things differently by challenging the norm and inspiring others to do the same through facilitating a culture of trust openness and honesty.
  • You need to be able to see the end-to-end system, understand constraints and bottlenecks and be able to work out how process can be simplified, interactions can be automated and through mastery, how the system can become highly efficient in both delivery and support.

Skills and Experience

Advanced level
  • Linux Administration (RHEL/Centos)
  • Ansible or Puppet
  • System availability and performance monitoring and alerting
  • Implementation of automation and software defined infrastructures

Intermediate level
  • Amazon Web Services/Azure
  • VMware
  • Understanding and experience of working as part of an Agile / Product team
  • Appreciation of modern software development lifecycles
