As an experienced Consultant Data Engineer in BAE Systems you will be working as part of a client side team that designs and builds complex data collection and data integration issues ( i.e. Data Pipeline and ETL design and development ) to drive insight creation and mak e data and information available to data scientists, decision makers, internal and external interfaces and real time decision procedures with operational systems and continuous delivery channels.
The Consultant Data Engineer specialises in helping clients within large scale projects and programmes to help deliver data specific solutions. They apply software engineering rigour and best practice and bring detailed technology expertise to bear on client programmes.
Consultant Data Engineers will often work closely with Enterprise Data Architects.

Role Accountabilities:

  • Designs, develops, tests and supports data collection, data integration and ETL applications to make information and data available to key client stakeholders and technical interfaces
  • Develops environments to host and run these applications, and manages how new features are released
  • Models data requirements, data sources and data flows and implements these models to realise client programmes of work
  • Understands how to add value to data - for example through data cleansing
  • Understands categories of products (and individual examples) that can be used to collect, integrate, store and visualise data and metadata

About you
You will have experience in the majority of the following:
  • Tool capabilities
  • E.g. Ab Initio, Informatica, Oracle ODI, Talend
  • Big Data / Open Source ETL Tools Eg. NiFi, Spark, Kafka, Flume
    • Database Management Systems
  • E.g. Oracle, Teradata
  • E.g. Hadoop, Elastic
    • Application Testing and Automation Tools
    • Configuration Management and Version Control Tools
    • Testing strategies and tools
    • Infrastructure design - physical, virtual and/or cloud
