We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a number of data Developers to our business, based in London working for a variety of Commercial and Government customers

We are seeking talented individuals with strong data and analysis skills and an excellent understanding of data technology.

The Data Developer designs, develops, and configures software based on traditional RDBMS and/or Big Data approaches to deliver data driven projects and solutions. The data engineer understands how data is used, manipulated and processed and combines these skills to create innovative solutions to business problems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be able to work across the life-cycle of a data project, undertaking data acquisition, exploration, manipulation and analysis as required.
  • Provide expertise on data analysis approaches and data technology options such as analytical tools, and Big Data analytics.
  • Analyse client data problems and requirements, and identify solutions
  • Be able to pick up, configure and exploit various data processing and analysis approaches and platforms.
  • Scripting, as required, to rapidly develop solutions
  • Client-facing, will build a strong and trusted working relationship with the client

Mandatory Skills and Experience Required

  • Comfortable handling and manipulating data, with demonstrated experience in a data-intensive setting e.g. data analysis, data management, data product or research and innovation
  • Able to script or code data processing approaches, ideally in at least one of Python, Java, Scala, MapReduce or SQL.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills using data analysis or statistical techniques
  • Hands-on experience with at least one of the following data technologies:
  • Commercial or open source data analysis tools (e.g. R, SAS)
  • Big Data platforms (e.g. Hadoop, MapReduce, Spark)
  • Relational or NoSQL databases (e.g. Oracle, MySQL, Mongo)
  • Business intelligence and ETL (e.g. Oracle, Parquet, Redshift)
  • Data visualisation and design (e.g. Tableau, Qlikview)
  • Self-motivation; able to manage own work and that of others with minimal supervision, whilst setting expectations by communicating progress and issues as required.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach in a dynamic environment - able to agilely prioritise work, and change to more promising approaches
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex ideas to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Must be willing to obtain the highest levels of security clearance, if not already held

Other Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Able to script or code in other languages such as Javascript, Pig, Hive, Impala
  • Experience with data formats e.g. XML, JSON
  • Hands-on experience with any of these data technologies:
    • Streaming and CEP technologies (e.g. Tibco, Storm, Spark Streaming)
    • Graph databases and semantic representations (e.g. OWL, RDF, Neo4J)
  • Machine learning, statistical modelling or recommender systems
