Forensic - Using specialist accounting, investigation and business skills in assisting clients involved in commercial or regulatory disputes or in the investigation of fraud and impropriety. Working in the team will mean getting involved in a broad range of projects, i.e. Fraud investigations, and tracing assets.

Job Description

The Team

Forensic Technology (FTech) supports clients and their legal advisors in response to litigation, civil
disputes, investigations, cyber, regulatory and M&A matters. FTech assist their clients through the
preservation, collection, processing, reporting, and analysis of electronically stored information (ESI)
such as emails, chat messages, and electronic documents.

The projects are often time critical and include global clients with footprints around the world,
providing opportunities to work with other overseas offices including on site attendance. Many
projects have a significant impact on our clients' businesses and communities, with matters
occasionally featuring on international headlines.

FTech are looking for data specialists who are able to extract, store, enhance, and investigate large
volumes of unstructured data by leveraging market-leading technologies and methodologies.

The Role

Data analysts support the delivery work on a range of engagements. This will include:
- Assisting with forensic data scoping, information gathering ahead of the data collection.
- Handling evidence with care and in accordance with ACPO guidelines.
- Undertaking forensically sound data preservations from computers, mobile devices,
networks and cloud systems unsupervised whilst at client offices.
- Processing the acquired evidence using specialist forensic software and scripts.
- Undertaking triage and basic forensic examination of the windows computer disk images and
mobile devices under the direction of project managers.
- Verifying, validating and analysing data that has been collected or received from clients.
- Maintaining and updating procedural documentation and contemporaneous notes.
- Creating and updating data trackers, dashboards, and reports.
- Manipulating text files with range of techniques in text editors or Excel to normalise and
clean up the data ahead of data processing.
- Producing client ready basic deliverables.
- Assisting on eDiscovery projects for the wider FTech team as and when required.
Other duties:
- Researching and testing new forensic software.
- Staying upto date with the new developments in the DFIR area.
- Identifying other opportunities within the team and the firm to add value by utilising the
forensic skillset.
- Maintaining forensic lab and imaging equipment.
- Contributing to business development through market research, and assisting with slide
decks.

The Person

The candidate will have 2+ years' experience in a professional services environment assisting with
investigations and incident response. Successful candidates will be encouraged to widen their
horizons and take advantage of available development opportunities.
Computer Forensics Experience
- Worked in a professional services environment or law enforcement assisting with the delivery of eDisclosure/Investigations.
- Experience in assisting or driving a digital forensics investigations into data theft, fraudulent data manipulation, unauthorised access, malware and other cases.
- Familiarity with forensic best practices, e.g. evidence handling, chain of custody, metadata preservation, etc.
- Experience in handling and analysing unstructured data sources such as emails, network shares, and laptops.
- Experience in liaising with clients on basic requests and delivering software training.
- Proficient in use of some of the forensic tools such as EnCase, FTK, IEF\\Axiom, X-Ways, SIFT, Volatility, Cellebrite, Oxygen, Macquisition, Wireshark, CrowdStrike, F-Response, NUIX or similar.
- Understanding of common forensic artefacts such as Windows Registry, Link files... and forensic analysis techniques such as Forensic Timeline, USB device history.
- Strong knowledge of Operating Systems in particular recent Windows versions, knowledge of MacOS is advantageous. PowerShell and scripting skills desirable.
- Understanding of computer networks, knowledge of network forensics desirable.
- Basic understanding of databases and SQL code.
- Knowledge of the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) lifecycle.

- Keen interest in new technologies and eagerness to learn new elements of computer forensics.

- Keen to learn industry-specific software and in-house processes.
- Able to interface with individuals at different levels, at both a technical and non-technical perspective.
