Role summary
As a Senior Commercial Officer you will be a key player in providing Commercial services, devising support and implementation of strategy to meet the needs of our fast-paced business and customers. Our mission as the Commercial Team is to provide trusted advice, expertise and resources that enable BAE Systems Applied Intelligence to win and deliver successful contracts and grow a sustainable and valued business for BAE Systems and our customers.  We are looking for passionate people to join the Commercial team who are looking for an exciting career in this fast growing industry.
This role supports the Defence client group, working across a number of locations predominantly across the south of England with central hubs being Guildford and London. There will be a requirement to travel in order to support customer and business engagements. As such there is the ability for flexible working in terms of location and working hours.
What you will be doing
The focus of your role will be to facilitate the transaction of good business throughout the full sales lifecycle - from sales through to the conclusion of contract delivery. You can have the opportunity to lead proposals, contracts and changes, acting at the forefront of customer discussion and owning the management of contractual matters. Collaborating with a Commercial Manager you will be able to participate in more complex opportunities, helping to shape the agreements we negotiate, influence the price build-up and then see through the execution of commercial planning.
Throughout the opportunities you work on, you will occupy a central position co-ordinating and connecting know-how and proactively engaging other disciplines within our organisation to influence and achieve the best results, working with customers and a wide range of internal stakeholders across Client Account Management, Bid Service, Commercial, Legal and Project-specific teams.
Specific responsibilities will include:
    Acting as primary customer interface for proposals and contractual matters Contract management activities throughout the opportunity lifecycle, including managing Commercial requirements, deliverables and performance of specified contracts at all phases Identifying commercial risks and opportunities, and devise appropriate mitigations Leading and supporting the preparation of proposals, contract changes and claims Leading final stages of contracts Proactively engaging other functions to enhance the Commercial solution Providing guidance on contract management issues and internal governance Working with Procurement to leverage the supply base Maintaining customer knowledge and applying market intelligence to opportunities Developing knowledge of the product/service and applying this knowledge Coaching contract management issues,  tools and techniques Influencing the price build-up
What we are looking for
    Knowledge of legal issues, standard IP issues, profitability requirements, contract structure, terms and conditions, sub-contract considerations, funding and payment plans Experience of UK MOD contracting and good working knowledge of DEFCONS and DEFSTANS and their application, and knowledge of Central Government Contracting/Frameworks Ability to identify commercial risks and opportunities, and devise mitigations Knowledge of varied types of contracts and ability to adapt standard agreements Ability to forge good working relationships peers and other colleagues Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, building relationships and influencing stakeholders
