Category Manager
The primary objective of the Category Management team is to provide the business with year on year cost reduction and competitive advantage by proactively providing partnerships, agreements, frameworks and Strategic Relationship Management (SRM). 
 
The role reports to the Head of Sourcing & Category Management and will be responsible for defining the global strategy for Technology Services expenditure and associated sub-categories, including Hardware, Software, Hosting, Telecommunications, etc.
As a Category expert you will be expected to provide ongoing development and implementation of Category and Sub-Category strategies which typically cover a 1-3 year horizon and are aligned with the business requirements.
 
As a Global Category Manager you will be expected to build strong relationships and work closely with key business stakeholders at all levels to ensure business requirements are clearly understood and aligned with the Category sourcing strategies, providing expert external supply market knowledge to the business.
 
 
 As a BAE Systems AI procurement expert you will:
  • Develop and implement a Category Strategy Plan covering all elements of category management (define, analysis, execute and manage)
  • Engage cross functional and cross business teams in category management activities, contributing and influencing the business to deliver the right supply solution and mitigate supply risk Use a range of tools to analyse the defined category (spend, market and supplier analysis)
  • Develop category strategy and document associated value for money proposition
  • Execute category sourcing strategy in line with company processes
  • Develop and undertake supplier capability assessments
  • Create negotiation strategies and lead those negotiations
  • Work with the businesses and other functions to ensure category recommendations meet expectations and best outcomes are achieved
  • Manage supplier performance (review progress, assess progress and close contract)
  • Management of supply base within the category and associated supplier assurance
  • Provide domain expertise to support business winning activities
  • Act as champions for the global procurement transformation project, with a particular focus on embedding category management across the businesses
  • Acts as an Ambassador of the Procurement organisation with internal stakeholders and external suppliers
  • Support development of material for category management to standardise processes, document lessons learned and good practice and deliver improved operational efficiency
  • Report to senior leaders verbally and in writing on the progress of the category strategy, in particular against savings made and future savings projections
  • Owns and delivers the category in year savings plan  
     Essential functional knowledge:
  • A proven ability to lead and execute strategic sourcing initiativesExcellent stakeholder management, communication, challenging and influencing skillsAbility to translate complex procurement guidance into simple, straightforward and practical advice.
  • A proven record of delivering value for money, commercially astute with excellent negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Project management skills.
  • CIPS Qualified or working towards qualification.   Business Expertise
  • Broad knowledge of the Company strategy, products and services, company structure and company procedures
  • Understanding of key Procurement processes, and how these fit into the wider organisations processes   
  • Ability to work at all levels in the organisation Leadership

  • Reporting at a senior level on category management progress
  • Promoting the role of procurement across the organisation and the value add problem solving

  • Understand and challenge current ways of working to improve efficiency and drive collaboration
  • Identify problems in order to suggest and implement opportunities for continuous improvement
