DWP are looking for an experience security profession to become our Head of Operational Capability for our Cyber Resilience Centre. You will work with us on in a once-in-a-generation digital transformation. Our people work on projects that are revolutionising products and services that are used by millions of people every day.

You’ll be keen to take on the challenge of working for the UK’s largest government department in a role with a remit to protect over £170 billion worth of payments including payments to some of the most vulnerable members of society.

You will work in the Department’s Cyber Resilience Centre (CRC). CRC has a vital role in securing the DWP IT Estate. We ensure that DWP service delivery is not affected as a result of potential malicious activity from either internal or external threat actors. You will work to ensure the integrity and the smooth running of the function.

You and your role

The role involves driving forward the Cyber Resilience Centre’s (CRC) operational capability to enhance the maturity of the Cyber Resilience Centre.

You will lead on ensuring compliance audit and management of operational security capabilities. You will provide senior management assurance that effective security controls are in place and meet all required standards, regulations and policy.

Key Responsibilities:

You are responsible for identifying and implementing internal cyber-security related development initiatives to support our priorities, establishing a clear strategic direction.

You’ll provide advice and support to the Head of CRC and the leadership team on recruitment, learning and development opportunities.

You will drive forward capability development, to support and improve operational maturity, identifying and resolving issues and gaps to maximise efficiency.

You will make sure the alignment and delivery of Cluster Security Unit 3 compliance, audit and management of security operations systems, material and areas are achieved to the required standard (in accordance with the handling of crypto (IS4) for highly classified material). You’ll manage approval of security controls through third party and internal audits.

You’ll also work with internal/external stakeholder to provide appropriate information security assurance. And you’ll manage business change and get involved in exciting special projects too.

What are we looking for?

  • You have significant experience of leading and managing a technical team.
  • You can manage multiple priorities and respond flexibly and effectively to competing demands, balancing priorities accordingly.
  • You have experience of driving forward capability development, to support and improve operational maturity.

DesirableSkills/qualifications:

  • BCS Certificate in Information Security Management Principles (CISMP), or equivalent qualification, or equivalent knowledge, or equivalent experience of physical and environmental security controls, information security management, people and technical security controls, and disaster recovery.
  • Evidence of completion of the STRAP Security Officer Training Course.
  • Evidence of completion of COMSEC Custodian Training Course.
  • Prince 2 and/or Agile Project Management, or equivalent qualification, knowledge, or experience of managing projects.

You will be part of a team who provides support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and as a result you may be required to work as part of an on call rota, which will also attract occasional out of hours working (i.e. after 8pm until 8am), and may include travel to different sites.
