About The Team
The team manage the database infrastructure estate across the globe. Supported databases enable both our developers and critical business systems, each being maintained appropriate to their SLA. The team is responsible for delivering new and maintaining/optimising current instances. We primarily follow an Infrastructure-as-Code deployment model and Agile delivery processes, for both operational management (including site reliability engineering) and new capability delivery.
 
About The Role
 
The successful candidate will be joining the Database team which responsibility for resolving infrastructure support issues, maintaining and managing the overall performance and availability of the Database systems. Forming a key role in the Agile team, the Database Architect will work across all Database technologies and usecases and work with architects in other squads/technology areas to ensure that the database service is well architected - enabling expedient platform delivery and simplified operations. Whilst technology-delivery is core to our role, so too is the appreciation of how we enable the business and service availability.
 
 
What You Will Be Doing
 
Principle Responsibilities
 
Defining and documenting our database architecture
Defining and documenting our database roadmaps and standards
Maintaining our risk log
Supporting engineering teams in optimising the platform
Escalation point for engineering teams in troubleshooting and incident management
Driving the adoption of automation in the platform
Completing tasks in conjunction with team members both in the office and offshore, including:
  • Custodianship of database instances.
  • Developing and maintaining backup and disaster recovery plans
  • Implement database maintenance plans
  • Upgrading, patching, and general maintenance of live Oracle and SQL databases.
  • Design, develop and implement complex database systems for new projects and deliveries.
  • Monitoring, optimizing, troubleshooting and performance tuning
  • Planning requirements and storage needs to allow for database growth
  • Providing technical expertise to support project delivery, support, and junior colleagues.
Providing feedback for other team members.
Communication with other team members, internal staff, and external clients.
Attention to detail.
Good organisational skills.
Building relationships with internal stakeholders.
Out of hours support on a rota for the infrastructure
 
 
 
 
Skills and Experience
Essential Skills:  (at least 2 Database Technologies)
Install, configure & support of Oracle Database 10g - 11g - 12c 
Install, configure & support of MS SQL Server 2012, 2014, 2016
Install, configure & support of IBM DB2 9 - 10 - 11 
AWS RDS and Azure SQL
Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
Database upgrades
Database patching
Experience with backups, restores and recovery models
Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options
Backup and Recovery
DB Security design, implementation and monitoring
Application security
High Availability and Disaster Recovery
Oracle Advanced replication
Oracle Data Guard
Capacity Planning
Tuning and Optimization
RAW devices
Oracle ASM
Initialisation parameters
SQL and PL/SQL troubleshooting, coding and optimization
Cloud based administration
Experience with data warehouse technologies and practices
Desirable:
TOGAF
Familiar with VMware (Infrastructure 5.5 / 6 / 6.5), AWS / Azure and Clustering services
Familiar with Microsoft Windows Server  2008, 2012, 2016,  Windows 7,  8.1 &10,
Familiar with Linux RHE or CentOS 6 and 7
Very strong attention to detail.
Excellent analytical & problem solving skills.

Capable of handling multiple priorities in fast paced surroundings.
