About The Team
The team manage the Applied Intelligence AWS infrastructure, which enables our globally-distributed software engineers. The team is responsible for delivering accounts/environments, provisioning those as self-managed environments or providing managed-fabric services, and ensuring that the platform is continually developed to meet the evolving needs of the business. We primarily follow an Infrastructure-as-Code deployment model and Agile delivery processes, for both operational management (including site reliability engineering) and new capability delivery.
 
About The Role
 
The successful candidate will join the AWS team which has responsibility for the delivery and ongoing maintenance of AWS environments for our software engineers. Forming a key role in the Agile team, the AWS Product Owner will work across the whole service offering and work with other Product Owners to ensure that the AWS service is provided in the most optimal way possible - enabling expedient platform delivery, simplified operations, maximised security and minimised cost. Whilst technology-delivery is core to our role, so too is the appreciation of how we enable the business and service availability.
 
 
What You Will Be Doing
 
AWS Product Owner-specific responsibilities
  • Own the IM&T-provided AWS Product, with the overall goal of providing the 'obvious' method of consuming AWS services
  • Work with a small, distributed product team to deliver the service, and collaborate with other product owners to ensure that the service is coherent within the context of the enterprise
  • Pro-actively develop the service, maintain quality / easy to consume roadmaps
  • Drive the Agile / Scrum process to provide results-driven output
  • Work closely with our internal customers to maximise the appropriate adoption of the service
  • Maximise security whilst minimising constraints
  • Pro-actively minimise costs for our internal customers, through right-sizing, utilisation reduction, intelligent procurement and use of cloud-native services
 
General Product Owner responsibilities
  • Support the development teams with continuous improvements.
  • Protect the development teams from 'outside noise'.
  • Keeping customers or users appraised of status and getting their feedback.
  • Build and maintain a relationship with all stakeholders.
  • Measure, track and report progress.
  • Takes responsibility for a portfolio of products, define the products strategy and product roadmaps, taking responsibility for their execution.
  • Responsible for ensuring the product(s) maintain a high quality set of artefacts.
  • Provides effective leadership to the teams delivering across the product lifecycle working with cross functional teams from marketing, sales, and engineering.
  • By exception contributes towards business winning activities for new or extended work, related to the Product.
  • Builds specific market expertise and contributes to wider portfolio strategy for related products.
  • Ensures the Product strategy and roadmap is clearly translated to all relevant stakeholders including customers, the business and development teams.
  • Adjusts the Product Strategy and roadmap based upon feedback from stakeholders.
  • Proposes and influences product vision and strategy for complex products or a full product line.
  • Acts as a primary point of contact for clients and leadership teams for escalations, and has day to day accountability for the product and its success.
  • Has specialist knowledge in one or more areas of Product line and /or portfolio, applying these practices across a range of products.
  • Works with other Product Owners to form and deliver a wider business strategy.
  • Work with and understand the business needs and processes of stakeholders from multiple business areas for example, Human Resources, Capabilities, Sales etc.
  • Work with the engineering teams to ensure sufficient processes and tools are in place to meet the requirements of the business and customers & make sure that these processes are being followed and adjusted as needed.
  • Make sure that the engineering teams are communicating with stakeholders the right amount. This tends to be mean keeping the stakeholders away from the engineering teams, and making sure the teams are asking the stakeholders about things they don't understand fully.
  • Sets the strategy and vision for the Product Portfolio, including aligning product strategy to corporate business strategy.
  • Evangelize the solutions, the process, and the development teams to business leadership, other development teams and customers.
  • Has experience in on-shore, off-shore, blended and multi-site engineering model execution.
  • Contributes to reducing the aggregate cost-to-serve engineering activities across the organization.
  • Contribute to the wider Product Owner/Lean/Agile community and/or practices both internally and externally to the company.
  • Out of hours support on a rota for the infrastructure
