Summary of Role

Raytheon UK are looking for an experienced Programme Software Lead / Software Systems Architect to join our Defence Intelligence Solutions (DIS) business on our Geospatial Intelligence programme (ASG). We operate an Agile/Scrum methodology and you will be involved in the full software development lifecycle, developing solutions using the latest technologies. Working on ASG you will be part of a growing team, working alongside world class partner organizations.

Main Duties

Primary Objective: To design and develop mission critical applications and systems

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and define architectures for complex software based systems
  • Document these designs and communicate them to all stakeholders
  • Act as Software Design Authority who can communicate risks and impacts of design changes to technical and none technical stakeholders
  • Key contributor & independent reviewer at gate & design reviews
  • Design and develop product functionality, user interfaces and performance improvements
  • Act as team lead for large scale software development programs ensuring efficient use & deployment of software resources
  • High competency in use of software patterns and other design methodologies.
  • Responsible for section/business area resource planning
  • Responsible for personal development of team members
  • Identify and resolve issues related to tool, process and environment selection
  • Keep abreast of relevant technology changes and plan for new technology insertion

Candidate Requirements

Essential

Demonstrable experience as a Lead Engineer or Architect on projects of significant size and complexity and extensive skills in two or more of the following:
  • Java application development
  • Web application frameworks development in languages such as JavaScript, jQuery, node.js, angular.js, HTML5/CSS3
  • Application development using Java orientated middleware, for example, JEE, Spring, Hibernate, Apache Camel
  • Software application development utilizing RDBMS (e.g. Oracle/MySQL) and/or unstructured persistence layers, (e.g. ElasticSearch, MongoDB )
  • Current holder of or eligibility to obtain MoD DV security clearance

Desirable

  • Current holder of MoD DV security clearance
  • Experience Working with Agile/SCRUM/DevOps delivery models
  • Experience with high performance distributed systems
  • Experience of Data Analytics and Visualization
  • Experience of Big Data Technologies (Hadoop, Pig, Hive, Spark)
  • Experience in secure development techniques and tools that produce secure systems
  • Understanding of virtualization (e.g. VMWare and Hyper-V)
  • Experience of PKI and encryption techniques
