Summary of Role:
An opportunity for a technical author has arisen within the Raytheon Airborne ISR technical publications department based at Waddington.

The Technical Author is responsible for the in-service support of the Air Vehicle (Sentinel R Mk1) Aircrew and Maintenance Documentation Sets and the Topic 5 Maintenance Schedules and reports to the Technical Publications Manager based at Waddington.

This position requires a sound knowledge and experience of:
  • Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (IETP).
  • Military Aircrew Documentation
  • The requirements of the JAP (D) 100C-20.
  • Topic 5 Document Set.
  • Technical Manuals to civil and military specifications.
  • Collate technical data
  • Produce technical documentation using Simplified English.
or
  • A proven aerospace background in mechanical/avionic engineering.
The successful candidate will also be part of the growing Airborne ISR Engineering Team which delivers aviation engineering expertise across a wide range of projects to both military and civil customers worldwide.

Main Duties:
The Air Systems Technical Author will be part of an expanding ILS department and report to the Technical Publications Manager within the Airborne ISR ILS team.

This role is ideally suited to an experienced Aerospace Technical Author with proven experience in the production and maintenance of military aircraft publications.

The role offers an exciting challenge in supporting the Sentinel programme with responsibilities for:
  • Generation of draft procedures/documents for all modifications carried out to the aircraft and mission systems.
  • Staffing Unsatisfactory Feature Reports through to amendment.
  • Liaison with both the Technical Publications Department of the aircraft OEM and Defence Aircrew Publications Squadron (MoD ) for aircrew publications.
  • Liaison with our publications sub-contractor for the production and quality of all maintenance schedule publication amendments and all maintenance publications.
  • Support to formal reviews, including the annual Aircrew Documentation Review with Defence Aircrew Publications Squadron/Delivery Team and the annual Technical Interchange Meeting with the OEM.
  • Acting as the Publishing Organisation (PO) to prepare and produce amendments on behalf of the Technical Information (TI) sponsor to the Master Maintenance Schedule and its subordinate documents.
  • Liaison with the authorities TI sponsor to ensure that all amendments are correctly signed off and authorised.

Candidate Requirements:

Essential:
  • Demonstrable and recent engineering background working within an aerospace/environment.
  • Thorough working knowledge of modern IT working practices.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows based software.
  • An effective communicator, with the ability and enthusiasm to present professionally or by written communication.

Desirable:
  • Degree or HNC/HND in an engineering discipline or equivalent.
  • Demonstrable and recent authoring experience working within an aerospace/ environment.
  • Good knowledge in writing to military and/or civil aircraft standards. Experience of working with Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (IETP) and Common Source Data Base (CSDB).
  • Knowledge and experience with aircraft electrical and mechanical systems.

Eligible for or holder of current SC security clearance (RSL will sponsor as required).
