Infrastructure Architect 18-month fixed term contract vacancy in Birmingham based public sector organisation
Up to £70000 per year plus 29 days annual leave and many other generous benefits

The purpose of this role is to provide Technical Leadership and practical expertise to support an IT Transformation Programme in order to transfer the business vision into a technical solution.

The post holder will lead the technical aspects of the organisations IT Transformation Programme, supporting and mentoring the current IT team, and supporting the IT Programme Manager. The Technical Lead will report to the Director of Finance.

The post holder will join the organisation at a pivotal time as they are just starting an IT Transformation Programme and will also be moving to new Birmingham City Centre premises at the end of 2020.

Before the end of 2019 our client anticipates gathering its requirements and mapping business processes to inform a procurement exercise to find a supplier to support the design and build of a new internal integral system. They also anticipate designing its new infrastructure and beginning the development of a transition plan in 2019, to enable it to move from one infrastructure to another by the end of 2020. This design will need to be sufficiently detailed to support their accreditation process. During 2020 the focus will be on the design and build of the new Case Management System, building the new infrastructure and the procurement of new end user devices, telephony, Office 365; alongside the updating of their public website.

Main duties:

• Provide technical leadership to the Programme, supporting the existing IT team to transform the IT estate and line managing the Business Analyst

• Produce and own end-to-end integrated Solution Designs for a cloud based infrastructure operating from a Government Hub, meeting appropriate technical standards.

• Ensure a coherent and consistent approach across cyber, cloud, data centre, storage, network, mobile and the user experience of infrastructure.

• Work with business and technology partners to translate business needs, as defined by the Business Analyst, into technical designs aligning user need with system requirements, security and organisational objectives.

• Lead the design and review process for new solutions and services, developing and documenting technical designs for integration and implementation of any solution.

• Work with supplier software teams to develop business services and front-end applications using standard technologies and techniques such that any outputs can be maintained by third parties.

• Provide proof-of-concept solutions to confirm the feasibility of implementation, integration, upgrade or retirement/replacement of technologies.

• Provide Technical Consultancy, leadership and practical expertise to the programme and projects.

In order to apply, you must have the following skills and experience:

• Proven experience in a technical leadership role
• Solid infrastructure background gained as an architect or in a technical lead role
• Familiarity with data security principles and systems designed to protect sensitive data
• Able to create and maintain solution designs in an iterative and collaborative manner using good engineering principles
• An in-depth knowledge and experience of current technology including Windows 10, Server 2016/19, Active Directory networks, Office 365, mobile working and cloud-based applications/hosting
• Excellent technical skills with the experience to be held accountable for technical aspects of delivering complex solutions, including end to end integrated solution design
• Experience of agile development techniques
• Experience of working in a Government Hub context with a tight, time limited budget
• Able to navigate a complex landscape of technologies, third party suppliers, internal and cross-government teams
• TOGAF certified
