Your new role

Seeking a Senior Network Engineer; you will be responsible for supporting networks, firewalls and servers for the organisation. As a Senior Network Engineer you will lead the delivery of network solutions including Routers, Switches, Firewalls and Load Balancers, design, architectural designs; support, configure and maintain a low latency network; build and maintain datacentre infrastructure including network and server hardware, SAN arrays, operating systems and server virtualisation. You'll carryout ongoing tuning, hardware maintenance and resource optimisation, proactively identifying potential bottlenecks and problems and work with external suppliers to design and implement solutions and resolve issues.

In addition to providing third line technical infrastructure support, the organisations ICT Network Operations Centre (NOC) team procure, develop and maintain the core network and communication infrastructure for our business and our customers. The team's goal is to provide efficient, reliable and high quality Network infrastructure, which maximises value and minimises risk.

The NOC Team Leader will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of this team. As part of this they will provide direct leadership in order to maintain a 'Customer First' culture. The Team Leader is responsible for managing the on-going development and operation of the Councils Wide Area Network (WAN) and Local Area Network (LAN) solutions, maintaining performance, security and availability of key systems.

This role is crucial to ensuring service requirements are met in terms of communication, prioritising, escalating and resolving incidents and requests in accordance with established service level agreements and KPI targets. The role will include HR line management, service quality/delivery responsibility and the co-ordination and control of any on-demand work required from the team.

The Team Leader will have a key responsibility for influencing, mentoring and quality assuring the deliverables of other team members from within the NOC team. The role will require a high degree of customer focus and application of technical expertise to identify and resolve service problems in a cost effective and operational efficient manner.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP, multicast, routing and switching, firewalls
  • Experience of installing, configuring and maintaining Cisco routers and switches within a production environment
  • Strong knowledge of VPNs, Cisco firewalls and security issues
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server operating systems is necessary, including Microsoft Active Directory, Windows Deployment, Service monitoring and patching
  • Excellent communication skills, collaborative and comfortable with mentoring more junior team
