We are currently recruiting for an IT Data Development Manager to be a part of our innovative team on a 12 months fixed term contract! The team is based in our Bristol office; however, we can be flexible with other locations including working from home (travelling two-three times a week will be required post pandemic if not based in Bristol).

As the IT Data Development Manager, you would need to have extensive experience with managing technical teams in an ETL (Extract, Transform & Load), data warehousing/big data/BI environment and deliver highly complex technical solutions. Along with managing a pool of technical and SME resources including Lead Development Designers, Technical Leads, Senior/Developers, Data/Control Analysts and organised/largely aligned to projects.
 
We need your specialist experience to lead, plan, coordinate, and manage ETL/data warehouse/big data (including, data lake)/BI developments across multiple parallel deliveries, in order to support Aviva's projects and BAU requests across the full development project life cycle in a cloud (AWS) based environment. To ensure that Aviva internal and external stakeholders benefit from maximum value add solutions that allow efficient and effective processing and dissemination of data to support decision making and reporting requirements.
 
Responsibilities in the role:
  • Lead the development team - including mentoring, motivating and setting appropriate delivery objectives in line with agreed project milestones
  • Responsible and accountable for driving forward ETL (Extract, Transform & Load), Data Warehouse and Big Data developments in the cloud including, tracking, work stream status updates, sizing/estimating work, dependency management between work strands, escalation management and status reporting into project management
  • Adapt development management practice based on Aviva strategy/deliverable type (Agile/Waterfall). Set up, run and lead relevant workshops/stands up and embedded relevant governance into development life cycle
  • Handle all staff related matters, performance, recruitment an on-boarding, development budget management, risk management, knowledge transfers, contingency planning
  • Responsible for solution hand over into BAU/Run, ensuring full solution automation and controls are developed to internal and audit team standards
  • Identify, handle and control risks and issues associated with developments - recommend appropriate ways of managing risks identified and propose solutions
 
Skills and experience we're looking for:
  • Broad knowledge of development methodologies (Agile/Waterfall) and how to apply them
  • Project management skills/behaviours and budget management
  • Able to build relationship with individuals at all levels to illicit requirements and shape development plans
  • Able to document and present information to high level of detail whilst retaining ability to convey ideas and solutions in an easy-to-understand way to the business
  • Good understanding of the processes, systems and data delivery methods
  • Excellent knowledge of software solution development lifecycles
  • Strong commercial awareness of financial services industry, processes and products
  • Insurance/financial services background is desirable but not crucial
 
Qualifications:
  • Degree educated in an IT discipline or equivalent IT qualifications (desirable)

  • Salary between £50,000 - £55,000 depending on location, skills, experience and qualifications
