The Home Office are seeking a Data Architect to join them in London. Note that the successful candidate will work from home until Jan 2021, and then it will be flexible working in London.

Team: HOME OFFICE|Digital Data and Technology|CTO Function

Initial contracts will run until 30th April 2021 and offer a rate up to £700/day.

IR35 STATUS: Inside IR35. This engagement has been assessed by the public body as Inside IR35 legislation. Candidates would be required to operate through an umbrella company on this engagement.

This role requires Active SC (Security Check) clearance. Applicants require active SC clearance or the willingness to go through clearance before starting on site. Candidates with current clearance will be preferred.

Role Summary

Data architect support is required for the implementation of an ML-augmented data catalogue. The engagement will be embedded within DSA, which lacks the necessary specialism in metadata management platforms.

Main Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with suppliers identified by ACE, deliver the capabilities described in the competitive proof of concept for an ML-augmented data cataloguing platform.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership, in the development, operation and ongoing improvement of complex, transformational digital services serving millions of users.
  • Work with product managers to understand user needs for new and existing services.
  • Act as the technical authority in prospective, information gathering and scene setting meetings, evaluate technical proposals from external suppliers, and make implementation recommendations to senior stakeholders.
  • Identify key API requirements for integration with internal and external systems.
  • Lead development of user-driven prototypes to identify technical options and inform architectural approaches, working with colleagues and supplier team members to write tests, code and documentation for new and existing systems.
  • Ensure system architectures are robust, scalable, open and secure, with appropriate overall system design and integration points/APIs, to deliver a high-quality user experience.

Skills and Experience

  • Significant referenceable experience working with metadata management platforms in large and complex environments, particularly in the areas of data catalogues and data lineage.
  • Understanding of machine learning concepts and technologies in the field of data cataloguing.
  • An excellent in depth understanding of one or more key technology areas (e.g. Oracle, Hadoop framework - HDFS, MapReduce, Pig, Hive, HBase -, MSSQL, Informatica, Ab Initio, Tibco, Spark, Kafka)
  • A good working knowledge of visualization and reporting tools, data modelling, data profiling, analysis and transformation

Candidate Eligibility

Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK, this role will not offer Visa sponsorship. Tier 2 – General visas are cannot be accepted. This role requires that candidates be willing to undergo BPSS (DS) Baseline Personnel Security Standard (with a Disclosure Scotland).
