Lead Network Engineer vacancy in large public-sector organisation
£35014-£45600 per annum 3-year fixed term contract including 32 days annual leave and other generous benefits

Hays IT are working in partnership with a large public-sector organisation in Birmingham to recruit a Lead Network Engineer on a 3-year fixed term contract basis.

Our client is looking for a Lead Network Engineer who will be responsible for maintaining and administering their data and voice network. Your primary duties will include support and maintenance of the network and related systems, monitoring and upgrade of all network equipment including, but not limited to, switches, routers, Wi-Fi access points, VoIP telephony, and firewalls. You will also be expected to take a lead role in the design and build of new networks in the organisations new build programme.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

• Lead initiatives for the optimisation and restructuring of network architecture.
• Provisioning (IP assignment, network configuration, build and document).
• Maintenance of technical diagrams and documentation of processes and procedures used throughout normal operations.
• Performs analysis of network security needs, responsible for design, install, configuration and maintenance of network and infrastructure systems.
• Monitor, diagnose, and resolve complex network and VOIP system issues
• Management of system performance and service quality.
• Support and maintain the internal telephony software/hardware
• To carry out project work to improve network security and stability and to ensure confidentiality of data and software.
• Ensure that appropriate documentation is maintained.
• Monitor and manage network performance.
• Resolve issues relating to internet connectivity across the university campus.
• LAN/WAN VLAN configuration, documentation and troubleshooting as required.

In order to apply, you must have the following skills and experience:

• Significant experience in enterprise network support and large-scale network operations.
• Cisco CCIE / CCNP certification or equivalent qualification
• Ability to structure and draft technical documentation including creating high and low level designs.
• Work well in a busy team, with ability to deal with a wide range of issues.
• Self-motivated, Strong analytical skills and able to collate and interpret data from various sources.
• Experience with multiple vendor hardware platforms including Cisco, Palo Alto, HP Simplivity.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Layer2/3 technologies and protocols, including, RSTP, VLAN, VTP, ARP, OSPF, BGP, TCP/IP, UDP.
• Solid understanding of enterprise network design, infrastructure, and operational best practices.
• Demonstrated ability to analyse complex situations and utilize troubleshooting skills, systems and tools, and creative problem-solving abilities under pressure.

• Strong attention to detail with excellent time management and organisation skills.
