The role of the Proposal Writer is to produce professionally written proposal content that clearly articulates the organisation's value proposition. This is role requiring collaboration skills and the ability to work to demanding deadlines.
The Proposal Writer will report to the Raytheon Head of Capture Management and be assigned to support specific Bid Manager in preparing compelling winning proposals.
The role will work with the Bid / Proposal Manager to develop the proposal structure and support the storyboarding process. The Proposal Writer is will review and edit previously written content where necessary, and work with bid team members to produce new written bid responses and presentation collateral in line with deadlines. The role will also be required to support the production of presentations and supporting documentation, ensuring a cohesive and consistent approach.
Experience
Proven skills in producing and editing proposal content within a complex business environment. The proposal writer will also be experienced in leading storyboarding sessions, participating in key review meetings and document production.
Core Responsibilities
• Assist the Bid / Proposal manager in developing a proposal structure
• Assist the Bid / Proposal Manager in conducting storyboard sessions with bid / proposal team members and key stakeholders
• Proactively develop and manage a network of subject matter experts
• Identify and re-work existing pre-written content where relevant
• Re-write / edit proposal responses from a variety of stakeholders, typically involving contributions from sales, marketing, technical / product teams, finance, commercial, legal and delivery
• Deliver completed written proposal responses to the Proposal Manager against agreed RFP deadlines, escalating issues as required
The Person
The ideal candidate for this job should be able to write effective, concise and compelling content while under the pressure sometimes associated with deadlines. The ability to work as a team and to get accurate, high quality information from all bid stakeholders in order to produce bid collateral is essential.
The successful candidate may have a background or experience in a journalistic environment, be it a past role or a qualification (degree or equivalent). Experience of journalism will help the Proposal Writer to construct a bid which pulls together factual information gleaned from a variety of sources in a format which is both interesting and comprehensive.
Not only should the Proposal Writer have excellent writing skills, but they should be able to work with other bid team members to help give them the necessary skills and confidence to write and produce materials themselves.
They should also be well versed in communicating through the use of compelling graphics and be able to work with Bid Team members and the Creative media designer to produce Proposal Graphics that convey the message of the proposal text in an engaging and eye-catching way.
Required Skills & Experience
• Degree educated (ideally English Literature) or journalistic / professional writing background.
• Can demonstrate effective proposal writing skills
• Proven bid team involvement
• Excellent communicator
• Excellent written English language skills with an extensive vocabulary
• Excellent attention to detail with an excellent editing and proofing ability
• Deadline driven with effective time management skills
• Thrive in a busy environment
• Strong time management / prioritisation skills
• Ability to coach Bid Team members and subject matter experts in writing best practice
• Advanced MS Word skills & proficient in MS Office
Preferred Skills & Experience
• Experience of the Defence and Aerospace industry
• Certified to APMP Foundation or Practitioner Level.
