Senior Network Engineer

My client is looking for a Network Engineer to proactively monitor and assess the network, diagnose, report and resolve issues related to the performance of the network, and perform Networking tasks to assist with the facilitation and delivery of technical projects. They will also be a second line point of contact for interdepartmental and customer enquiries.
Your new role
Proactively investigate raised network impacting issues and events, using internal monitoring tools
Act as a second/third line point of escalation within the Network Engineering Team
Utilisation of reporting systems for deeper level customer investigations
Monitoring and evaluation of network performance, including availability, utilisation, throughput, and latency Actively monitor and action requests received to the Network Engineering ticketing queue
Documentation of standard operating procedures
Support the Network Engineering department to ensure adherence to SLA's
Travelling to customer site locations and business points of presence within the UK, where required
Traffic analysis of infrastructure to identify capacity constraints, implementing resolution actions
Leverage existing and emerging technologies to identify solutions
To investigate and resolve high-priority and complex incidents on network related issues
Working with Network Engineers to build and deliver services in accordance with project requirements
Identify and implement automation opportunities
Experience needed
In-depth knowledge working with and troubleshooting skills when working with routing protocols such as ISIS, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP and MPLS
Extensive experience working on Metro Ethernet platforms and optical engineering technologies managing and implementation of DWDM network components
Intermediate knowledge of Optical Engineering and wiring standards
Experienced in Unix/Linux having worked on projects utilising applications such as Quagga, BIRD and FRR, including the deployment of Ubuntu-based servers
In-depth experience and knowledge of the TCP/IP and OSI model specifically TCP/UDP, IP, subnetting, and Ethernet.
Deep understanding of VLANs, STP, LACP, NAT, Load-balancers, QoS and VPN technologies including Layer 2 and 3 VPNs
Extensive configuration and troubleshooting knowledge on multiple vendor platforms, ideally Junos, Cisco (IOS, XE, XR), AristaEOS, Cumulus, RouterOS, Draytek, and D-Link.
Understanding of web filtering solutions and firewall technologies including, IPS/IDS, DPI/Application control and SSl decryption
Experience working with SNMP, NTP, DNS, RADIUS and TACACS services
Good understanding of BGP deployment and verification
Good understanding of Network analysis and monitoring tools: Wireshark, Nagios, Cacti, tcpdump and NMAP Configuration and diagnosis of VPN technologies
Deep understanding of broadband technologies, including PPP, xDSL, L2TP and LNS
CCNA/JNCIA or equivalent
CCNP/JNCIP or equivalent (Desirable)
Fortinet Level NSE 4 and 5 or equivalent
Firewall qualification (Desirable)
2 years' experience working in a wider telecom's environment
