I am recruiting for a very well known government department.

Your new role
The IT Security Officer role will sit within the Information Management team and will be a member of the Security Group. Your role will primarily be to ensure that the department is compliant with the government cyber security standards. You will ensure that the systems and processes have the necessary controls and protections in place. As part of your role you will be working with colleagues and our IT service provider to understand systems (existing & proposed) and risks in order to carry out an IT Security Risk assessment, to design and implement mitigation and appropriate corrective action as well as working closely with security colleagues within HM Treasury.

What you'll need to succeed
It is envisaged that the requirements of the role will grow with the candidate but will include:

  • Ensuring that the client is able to meet and retain the Cabinet Office Cyber security standard. The first step towards which is leading on the project to achieve ISO27001 certification.
  • Researching, recommending, creating points of control (POCs) and implement information security solutions that identify and/or protecting against potential threats, and responding to security violations.
  • Using a wide range of Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tools covering areas such as Network Behaviour and Intrusion Prevention to monitor, identify and analyse threats.
  • Working with external partners and internal teams to ensure the correct Incident Containment and Recovery processes and activities are followed in the event of a major Incident.
  • Documenting implementation procedures for new products and technologies.
  • Technically leading implementation of security solutions from end to end.
  • Performing detailed analysis to identify IT security impacts or considerations and translate into secure, viable technical solutions.
  • Supporting incident response processes and participating/collaborating with the Programme Management and IT Service delivery team. Working with both technical and business teams for requirements gathering.
  • Working to continually improve the tools, processes, documentation, and systems utilised within the organisation.
  • Working both independently and with internal teams in a project-oriented environment.
  • Maintaining Information Security compliance with regulatory requirements and expectations and ensuring improvement opportunities are fully identified, progressed and tracked to resolution.
  • Ensuring that good governance is maintained and supported including, identifying and preparing meaningful Information Security management information and reporting.
  • Ensuring the adequacy of existing information security controls, identifying actual and potential system vulnerabilities and recommending corrective measures.
  • Identifying emerging strategic security needs and making recommendations to resolve issues.
  • Conducting security assessments, risk analyses and assessing contingency plans for Business Applications and systems.
  • Work closely with the IT Business Partner and IT Service Providers to support the monitoring, analysing and triage of activities. Assist perform threat modelling across business applications and infrastructure integrations
