Position summary:


The UK Customs Manager is a key member of the Global Trade (GT) Team, reporting to the GT Country Lead/Manager. The Customs Manager is responsible for the day to day customs operations and compliance across 3 UK Mechanical Systems businesses (manufacturing, m
aintenance, repair and operation sites),
in Wolverhampton, Banbury and Hemel Hempstead. Leading the customs and import team, you will provide customs (import & export) operations, guidance and direction to the business functions, key stake holders and other business partners.

Responsibilities:
  • Managing the day-to-day customs operational requirements and compliance with regards to all authorized customs facilitation measures and simplifications including, Inward Processing (IP).
  • Leading critical customs programme initiatives and proactively lead compliant duty mitigation.
  • Ensuring accurate & timely reporting to HMRC.
  • Managing the customs & import team responsible for UK customs obligations
  • Ensure maintenance of and compliance with all customs related requirements associated with the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) programme.
  • Harmonizing customs processes across the UK facilities, e.g. standardising key elements, such as valuation, country-of-origin (preferential), classification and broker management.
  • Implementing the Collins Aerospace customs program within the Mechanical Systems facilities across the UK.
  • Managing Collins Aerospace and other strategic customs related initiatives, verifying and reporting of critical Global Trade customs metrics, driving continuous improvement efforts across the organization.
  • Collaborating with the UK, EMEA & Central customs senior leadership teams in respect of Global Trade and Corporate communication and driving a fully aligned organization.
  • Actively participate in Collins Aerospace Duty Mitigation Council.
  • Talent development, training and succession planning.
  • Identify compliance gaps, lead investigations and identify and support implementation of required corrective actions where appropriate.
  • Lead, support and advice during audits, inquiries and investigations of customs activities, including remedial & corrective activities.
  • Participate on Digital Technology developments ensuring customs requirements are appropriately addressed.
Minimum Requirements:


Education -
University Degree or extensive manufacturing / customs experience. Additional study in International Trade would be advantageous.

Experience
- working within an International Trade compliance role, with a proven track record of practically applying and managing customs regimes, cross functional controls and customs & international trade compliance within a dynamic manufacturing environment.

A strong understanding of the key technical elements of customs compliance, Classification, Valuation and Origin (Preferential).

Thorough understanding of UK and EU customs legislation, including directives and policies. A working knowledge of the World Customs Organization (WTO)

Knowledge of Incoterms and logistics practices.

Must be a good communicator and be able to effectively manage others through dotted line reporting, across corporate and legal entities.

Must have experience in a highly matrixed organization and the ability to brief senior management on complex legal issues and project milestones.

Must be able to set vision and execute projects from beginning to end while managing multiple priorities, locations and time zones.
