A leading Independent IT Infrastructure and Services Consultancy are looking for an experienced Unix Systems Administrator for a 6 month contract with a major banking client in the City of London (remote currently), Inside IR35

As a dynamic self-starter you will leverage your skills to primarily administer and support the Bank's global estate of 76K Unix virtual and bare metal OS instances. Acting as Unix subject matter expert, you will engage our business clients by responding to 3rd line escalations and / or joining incident bridge calls to triage, analyse and ultimately restore service outages. You will be passionate about what you do and enjoy deep diving into root cause analysis to establish whether process or policy necessitates change or enhancement. Being an excellent communicator, you will collaborate regularly with your global counterparts regarding technology initiatives that not only deliver business value, but additionally realize Bank targets and goals. To foster a sustainable pace that caters for changing needs, there will be a requirement to participate in a shift rota that targets either the early, middle, or later parts of the day.

The Unix Global Markets and Banking Domain Operations team provide high quality, comprehensive infrastructure and application support services to business technology partners on a globally consistent basis. These services cover the automated monitoring and resolution of standard infrastructure/application events, along with an in-depth proactive assessment program that ensures the ongoing stability of core applications. The team leverages a deep understanding of applications, data and business requirements to complement both the enterprise operations and domain design and build teams in providing the highest quality infrastructure support services.

Experience Required
Excellent Administration / troubleshooting skills ( RHEL 6,7,8 / Solaris 10 ) for a financial institution
Proficient at manipulating virtualized Linux deployments at an ESX layer
Bare metal Red Hat Clustering technologies - RHCS / PaceMaker
Veritas Filesystem / Volume Manager / Cluster
Networking Principles ( TCP/IP stack / DHCP / Bonding / Teaming / Multipathing )
Network Information System
Domain name system
Shell Scripting knowledge
Understanding of SAN / NAS Storage principles from an OS layer
Infrastructure support and trouble shooting of Oracle/HP/IBM/Dell hardware
Authentication Services - Vintella / SSSD
ITIL frameworks within BMC Remedy ( Incident/Problem/Known Error/Change )

Packet capture / deep dive analysis - Wireshark
Knowledge of Oracle Real Application Clusters ( RAC ) from a Linux OS layer

Scope of duties
Work against pre-determined working practices with fixed scope
Enforce policy, standards and procedure
Management activity reports
Audit reviews
Disaster failover, recovery and isolation testing
Running acceptance and qualification processes
Incident triage, investigation and restoration
Problem root cause analysis and known error recording
Co-ordination of Event resolution in conjunction with offshore peer platform teams
Facilitate warm hand off of Service Requests to platform teams
Vulnerability and configuration drift management
Project logistics and delivery
3rd Line UNIX systems consultation, support and administration
Software release and change management
Team shift :-7am - 6pm Monday to Friday
Occasional Weekend Working to support infrastructure and business changes
