Company Overview

BAE Systems Applied Intelligence helps nations, governments and businesses around the world defend themselves against cybercrime, reduce their risk in the connected world, comply with regulation, and transform their operations.

We do this using our unique set of solutions, systems, experience and processes - often collecting and analysing huge volumes of data. These, combined with our Cyber Special forces - some of the most skilled people in the world - enable us to defend against cyber-attacks, fraud and financial crime, enable intelligence-led policing and solve complex data problems.

We are obsessed about solving problems for our customers; we bring together great minds that face tough challenges on a daily basis, and are encouraged to make a difference.

Role Summary:

The successful applicant for this role will be accountable for managing routine projects (limited number of workstreams and dependencies, a single customer, little or no new technologies) in support of our clients in Government, Cyber Security and Financial Services. The typical value of these projects are £1M-£5M and will involve reporting into a client stakeholder and/or a more senior BAES colleague. The role may also provide the opportunity to work on complicated projects (managing discrete workstreams) under supervision.

As well as joining BAE SYSTEMS Applied Intelligence, successful candidates will become part of the Project, Programme and Portfolio (P3M) Profession which exists to develop its members in their roles and in doing so contribute to the company's profitability.

This specific role will involve leading highly technical engineering teams working on wireless and electronic technologies, therefore successful applicants will need to be able to blend the general project management skills detailed below with a foundation level of engineering background in order to be able to understand enough about the project they are leading and communicate effectively with the engineering team. Successful applicants will also need to be experienced in delivering projects using Agile methodologies.

What you will be doing:

• Determining the best means of satisfying customer requirements within the context of project objectives and constraints, i.e. developing solutions;

• Managing both internal and external stakeholders, taking account of their levels of influence and interests;

• Developing and managing teams, including managing their delivery and performance and providing appraisal and support to their development;

• Developing and agreeing budgets for projects and controlling forecast and actual costs against them;

• Preparing and maintaining schedules for project activities and events, taking account of dependencies and resource requirements, showing the critical path, reporting and tracking milestones, resource levelling, baselining and tracking reporting, contingency and risk adequately covered in the plan;

• Developing, maintaining and applying quality management processes for project activities and outputs

• Consolidating and documenting the fundamental components of projects (scope, schedule, resource requirements, budgets, risks, opportunities and issues, and quality requirements), escalating any divergence from the business case to the sponsor and stakeholders (as appropriate) and establishing, and implementing where necessary, protocols to change the scope of the project;

• Producing progress reports, managing RAID items and escalating with the client and within the business as appropriate. This includes: identifying and monitoring project risks (threats and opportunities), planning and implementing mitigation plans, responding to other issues that affect projects;

• Overseeing the Change Control process and implementation of Change Request;

• Lesson learned reports and project closure activities;

• Promoting AI's behaviours in all actions, acting in a morally, legally and socially appropriate manner.

What we're looking for:

Essential (attributes for success in role):

• Good understanding of PM methodologies, toolsets, process and governance;

• PM experience demonstrated in a professional role within a business or project:

• Duration of experience: 5+ years , Value of projects managed

• Strong influencing and negotiating skills required with the wider team and other functions/disciplines;

• Developing and managing teams, including managing their delivery and performance and providing appraisal and support to their development;

• Association for Project Management (APM) Project Management Qualification (PMQ) or Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Nice To Have (complementary attributes, the absence of which will not disadvantage the application):

• Managed full life cycle and project ecosystem including financial forecasting;

• Identify, adopt and tailor good practice;

• Bid writing experience of projects.
