Are you passionate about working with cutting edge technology and owning the design and engineering on projects delivering solutions that are central to our customer's missions? Join BAE Systems as a Solution Architect. We are looking for architects with strong focus on the design and optimisation of Big Data platform technologies.

You'll be working with our global teams and be responsible for ensuring that the solution meets its functional and non-functional requirements, and the correct application of relevant technologies, processes and tool chains. You'll need to define innovative solutions to problems, underpinned by robust delivery and engineering methods.

You'll enjoy working as part of a team, working with other architects and engineers to get the best out of the team, allowing everyone to contribute the skillsets. You will be an excellent communicator both internally and externally to your project, to facilitate decision making and co-ordinate design activities with related teams.

What you could be doing for us:

The NNCC proposition provides government customers with the ability to monitor their countries' Internet infrastructure for cyber-attacks. Using a combination of Applied Intelligence's own high speed network probes, the latest intelligence from our Threat Intelligence team and Internet-scale behavioural analytics, the NNCC system brings together many different parts of what AI does.

What background are we looking for?

  • Responsible for the design and implementation of the Big Data platform technologies used in NNCC systems. This includes HDFS, Kafka, Elastic and others.
  • Platform design includes the technology versions, features, pattern of installation and configuration of all parameters as well as working with the teams designing the data or process hosted by that technology to coordinate optimisation of the platform and the data or process.
  • Works with the infrastructure team to optimise hardware specification to support the platform.
  • Engages with and uses specialist sub-contractor SMEs from the technology vendors. Follows best practice guidelines for the technologies, but understands where our specific solutions may differ from this and is able to adjust to meet our needs.
  • Documents the designs and design basis (eg solution specific calculations).
  • Designs and performs experiments on the platform technologies to characterise, benchmark and optimise their configuration. May be on internal test systems, or by proxy working with our international teams based with our customers.
  • Gets hands on involved in implementation of the platform installation and configuration. Works with the build, test and release team to ensure the platform configuration is captured correctly.
