The Defence and Space Business Unit in BAE Systems Applied Intelligence delivers mission focused solutions in cyber & electronic warfare, digital transformation and special communications to clients across Land, Sea, Air, Space and Cyber.

We are looking for a project manager to grow our Space business and support our client's ambitions to deliver new Space capabilities for the United Kingdom. This would be someone who ideally has a space technical background with lots of experience in project managing the delivery of actual space missions (as the supplier not the customer) including through test campaigns, LEOPS, etc.

This role will be primarly based client side, so candidates will need to be willing to regularly travel to client locations in Hampshire and Wiltshire but otherwise this will be a Hybrid role working from home.

Accountabilities and Responsibilities

You will be responsible for applying the following independently and may supervise others applying the competence:
  • Promoting AI's behaviours in all actions, acting in a morally, legally and socially appropriate manner in dealings with all stakeholders and members of project and programme teams and the organisation
  • Securing the provision of resources needed for projects from internal and/or external provider
  • Determining the best means of satisfying requirements, in consort with Engineering, within the context of project objectives and constraints, i.e. developing solutions
  • Preparing and maintaining schedules for project activities and events, taking account of dependencies and resource requirements
  • Developing, implementing and updating resource plans needed for projects, taking account of availabilities and scheduling
  • Developing and agreeing budgets for projects and controlling forecast and actual costs against them
  • Identifying, assessing and managing project risks (threats and opportunities), planning and implementing responses to them and responding to other issues that affect projects
  • Developing, maintaining and applying quality management processes for project activities and outputs
  • Consolidating and documenting the fundamental components of projects (scope, schedule, resource requirements, budgets, risks, opportunities and issues, and quality requirements
  • Identifying and/or developing frameworks and methodologies that ensure management of projects will be comprehensive and consistent across different initiatives
  • Establishing and managing reviews at appropriate points during and after projects, agreed with both internal and external customers, which will inform governance of projects by providing evaluations of progress, methodologies and continuing relevance
  • Establishing, and implementing where necessary, protocols to change the scope of projects, updating configuration documents as required
  • Identifying, defining, evaluating, planning, tracking and realising the business benefits of programmes (and/or the projects within them)
  • Managing the integration of project outputs into business-as-usual, addressing the readiness of users, compatibility of work systems and the realisation of benefits
  • Planning and controlling finances of projects as a means of driving performance and as part of the organisation's overall financial management
  • Gathering independent evidence that the information from projects is valid and that projects are likely to achieve their aims


Typical Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Qualification Requirements

Knowledge:
  • Extensive knowledge of a range of PM methodologies and toolsets
  • Comprehensive knowledge of PM governance and assurance processes
  • Significant knowledge and experience of influencing internal and external stakeholders
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of both project and the wider business environment

Skills
  • Managed full life cycle including financial forecasting
  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills required in order to achieve optimum solutions with the wider team and other functions/disciplines
  • Stakeholder management skills up to Head Of Function influencing them to achieve business success
  • Effectively manage Projects or Work Packages and provide guidance in those areas
  • Ability to build and manage diverse teams and practice inclusivity as part of the day to day running of a project
  • Bid writing experience of complex projects

Qualifications
  • Recommended MSP Foundation for programme managers

Prior Experience
  • Independently managed complicated or complex projects previously
  • Space technical background
  • Delivery of space missions

Duration of Experience
  • 10 years +

  • £5-10M

Team size managed
  • Typically Career Management 5-10; Task Management 5-10 directly, 25+ indirectly


This role will require you to have or be willing to go through Security Clearance.
