As such, we require Lead Security Architect to join us at this exciting time.

Your new role
The Lead Security Architect will work across the Defra group and will be responsible for the secure delivery of end-to-end technical architecture and implementation designs. You will operate within a pan government and industry aware context. Responsible for Security Standard, Security Policy Framework, and the Technology Code of Practice (TCOP). This includes “secure by design” & ensuring “privacy by design” appropriate to the data being processed. You will have the primary responsibility for ensuring that designed solutions, are fit for purpose, meet security needs, and highlight any areas of deficiency or strategic conflict. You will work across multiple projects, and be expected to understand and influence the dependencies, overlaps and future implications of any identified solutions. You will also be required to support the technical and architecture requirements across the Defra group.

What you'll need to succeed
The successful candidate will have significant experience of working in a similar role in a multi-supplier environment, both designing security aspects of solutions and assuring the work of others to ensure coherent designs supporting an end-to-end service. You will have experience of estimating and contributing to project planning, dependency, and risk maps from a technical perspective, supporting the wider architecture team. Experience across a complex programme of security architecture is a benefit. You will need experience of agile and waterfall delivery methodologies and a practical understanding of architectural models. You will have strong hands-on experience and knowledge of at least two technology areas (such as identity, SIEM, PKI, firewalls, load balancers, proxies, connectivity, hosting), coupled with a broad understanding of the range of technologies which may be selected from to deliver required capabilities.You will be assessed against these behaviours during the selection process:

  • At interview you will be tested on Technical Skills. At this stage you will be required to show evidence of Secuirity Architecture, Range of Technologies and other relevant criteria. Full details will be confirmed to those shortlisted for interview.

    Please note that SC clearance is a mandatory requirement for these roles. You may start your employment upon completion of BPSS checks, whilst SC is in progress, however it is important to note that your employment will be terminated should you be unsuccessful in obtaining SC

    Defra will continue working from home and support fully remote flexible working. However, if you would prefer to work from an office, our DDTS hubs are London, York, Warrington, Crewe, Birmingham, Reading and Bristol. Defra have several other offices located across the UK.
