Role summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join the People team on a 1 year fixed term contract basis supporting Business Transformation. The role is based from our Guildford Head Office however maybe predominantly home based with visits to the office on avergae once per week, in line with our hybrid ways of working.

The role's primary objectives are:

  • To provide tactical and operational HR advice and support within assigned client area across the full range of HR activities, ensuring adherence to the Company's standards, policies and procedures and alignment to business objectives. Escalate complex cases to the Senior People Manager or Head of People when required.
  • To play an instrumental role in supporting the ER approach and delivery of transformation/change programmes, partnering with stakeholders to ensure timely and effective implementation.


What you'll be doing

Business Focused HR Support:

  • Support the Heads of People and People Managers in planning and implementing the People Plan within a line of business or sector.
  • Manage and resolve generalist type queries (e.g. probation reviews, policy advice, sickness absence, disciplinary, grievance) requiring business knowledge and face to face handling in line with BAE Systems Digital Intelligence guidelines and HR practices.
  • Manage and advise on ER cases in the Region to ensure matters are handled appropriately avoiding employment tribunals and ensuring a healthy work environment.
  • Channels information to and from People Services and provide guidance to the business on how and where to access appropriate support.
  • Analyze business related people data to identify potential implications within the business context and environment and works with line managers to resolve these as appropriate.
  • Enable people manager capability uplift, facilitating/supporting/coaching the manager in execution of people initiatives where necessary.

  • Support and lead on HR projects as required.
  • Encourage employees and line managers to use correct service channels
  • Work with the HR team on compliance, law and regulations updates and ensure the business are educated accordingly


Change Programme Support

  • Provide ER support and advice on a range of employment issues within a change programme context.
  • Support the Senior People Manager to implement and deliver ER governance throughout all ER processes, collaborating with People Service and Reward where required.
  • Support and drive sub-processes within change programmes to ensure key milestones are met.
  • Support Senior People Manager on reorganizations implementation to ensure the result is a structure that is fit for purpose to support the achievement of business goals with the right people in the right roles and clear career progression pathways.
  • Support and coordinate the delivery of effective stakeholder engagement and communication plans to ensure briefing and communication documents are appropriate and prepared in time for key milestones


What we're looking for

Functional knowledge:

  • Understanding of HR systems, theories and practices pertaining to the People Strategy and plan, and activities of the business.
  • Strong knowledge of large-scale change programmes and consideration of ER implications and required governance.
  • Degree in HR / Business related discipline
  • CIPD Qualified or working towards (desirable)
  • Good with data and ability to interpret and translate numbers into a narrative


Problem solving:

  • To have a proactive approach to solving problems, leading the wider team to develop solutions.
  • An ability to understand when to escalate matters for senior input or specialist advice.
  • Procedures fully understood and confidence in solutionising from these procedures.
  • Makes straightforward judgements by selecting appropriate solution from defined guidelines.
  • Ability to work within a team.
  • A proactive approach to communicating with stakeholders.
  • Excellent analytical skills
