Your new company

Hays Technology are currently recruiting for experienced and knowledgeable Senior IT Security Engineer to work for our higher education client in West Yorkshire. You'll be joining the existing security function and taking a lead role in the oversight of all IT security infrastructure, providing mentorship and managing key IT systems, firewalls and more.

Your new role will involve

  • Acting as a subject matter expert on Cyber and Information Security
  • Taking a lead role in upgrading the existing security infrastructure
  • Managing the day-to-day security components
  • Reporting and presenting on relevant tracked metrics
  • Providing security related insights on projects
  • Mentoring network and security focused colleagues to increase campus security
  • Conducting internal investigations when required
  • Managing firewalls, Intrusion Protection Systems and Intrusion Prevention Systems to detect issues, vulnerabilities and reacting to potential breaches
  • Relationship management with vendors and suppliers, as well as assessment of these groups with regards to procurement and implementation of security services and products
  • Liaising with wider teams to generate cyber security awareness

What you'll need to succeed

  • A strong cyber security background
  • Experience in a security management position
  • Experience of managing vulnerability management tools such as Qualys or Nessus
  • Experience of managing firewalls and operating threat protection tools
  • Able to be contacted outside of usual work hours in case of emergency
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Experience of network and infrastructure systems and security
  • Evidence of continued professional development i.e. relevant industry certifications
