We currently have a vacancy for a CNC Turner/Fitter at our site in Great Baddow, Chelmsford.

As a CNC Turner & Fitter you will be instrumental in assisting with the realisation of innovative designs, as products move from design through to demonstrators and onto production. You will be working with a broad range of internal stakeholders, including mechanical engineers, electrical engineering and research staff, as well as teams from other BAE Systems development and production facilities.

Your main responsibilities as a CNC Turner/Fitter will involve:



Machining: Programming, setting and running CNC and manual lathes and milling machines.

Manufacturing small batch / prototype and production components ranging from highly accurate aerospace components through to lab use demonstrator items within time and budget

Fitting: Tasks can be very variable but are mainly aligned to supporting research engineers with innovative solutions to design and manufacturing problems. An ability to interpret unspecified requirements, problem solve and to communicate and work closely with others is highly relevant.

Use of basic RP/AM equipment to assist with the above and also to enable models and demonstrators to be produced quickly and efficiently.

General: Ensuring that all manufacturing activities are undertaken in line with Applied Intelligence Labs processes and SHE requirements

Your skills and qualifications:

Completed a recognised apprenticeship in mechanical engineering, machining or tool-making is essential

Qualified to NVQ Level 3 Engineering (or equivalent) or higher

Extensive experience of CNC and manual turning, with additional technical competency in milling also required

Be able to programme, set and operate different machine tools

Fitting experience

Demonstrate Innovation and problem solving skills

Able to liaise with broad range of stakeholders

Ideally be able to give advice on Design for Manufacture issues
