The ideal candidate will be a Subject Matter Expert in Design Tools and Design Processes.


Position Summary:


Reporting to the Engineering Director, the Engineering Manager - Design Capability Leader will be responsible for developing the technical capability of the Engineering function and manage resources across different teams and projects. The successful candidate will be an expert in product and systems design and definition processes and will have extensive experience in successfully managing multidisciplinary engineering teams in a complex project environment whilst remaining hands-on.

Responsibilities:


Responsible for the Engineering functional capability (including process, tools and people skills). This includes:
  • Product Development / New Product Introduction
  • Product and Production support
  • Research and Development projects
  • Configuration Management
  • Test plant / Product validation
Responsible for the delivery of engineering milestones across projects and components (especially aerospace heat exchangers), meeting or exceeding safety, lead-time, cost, quality and technical specifications/requirements

Facilitate and integrate efforts between the Engineering team, Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Business Development and other functions

Manage engineering resources:
  • Load and capacity management
  • Planning and budgeting
  • People development
  • Performance management
Build, lead and develop a team of design engineers with the appropriate level of skills and experience to deliver the engineering design solutions

Provide technical leadership and direction to the team
  • Mentor, coach and train the team
  • Define objectives and support development plans
  • Lead design reviews
  • Supervise, check and validate design activities and deliverables through the product life cycle
Promote a culture of high performance, continuous improvement and innovation

Responsible for defining and applying the adequate processes and methods for product design, and ensuring process compliance within the team, including:
  • Requirements management
  • Change and Configuration management
  • Design optimisation
  • Expertise in CAD tools (NX), PLM (Teamcenter)
  • Lean transformation
  • Design for manufacturing (DFM)
  • Design validation
  • Knowledge management (lessons learnt, design guides)
Develop and deliver an Engineering capability road map and contribute to the Company's product strategy. Establish links with Universities, Research Centres and other relevant Organisations

Minimum Requirements:
  • Educated to degree level in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Demonstrable technical and people leadership in previous roles
  • Demonstrable expertise in delivering complex design solutions and leading engineering teams,
    preferably in
    the Aerospace industry (heat exchangers)
  • Expertise in the design and definition process of complex products through the product life cycle
  • Strategic planning and ability to build capability within a department through mentoring/coaching across a range of experience staff.
  • Expertise in CAD tools (ideally NX) and PLM (Teamcenter)
  • Preferably experienced in heat exchangers, Ozone convertors and fluid management systems
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills at all levels
