Title: Principal Systems Engineer
Locations: Flexible on location (Warminster)

Summary of Role:

Raytheon UK are part of Raytheon Technologies, one of the largest aerospace, intelligence services providers, and defence manufacturers in the world. We are seeking to expand our Defence development team which is focussed on the development and integration of strategic systems for the UK Defence market. These systems address a diverse range of military intelligence and planning needs, and focus on information integration, processing, and visualisation in a geospatial context. Raytheon follow a DevOps lifecycle approach and an Agile development methodology utilising SAFe and SCRUM as core methods. The role will serve within the Information Exploitation section of the C4I business unit. The holder of this role will need to possess or be capable of possessing SC clearance with an option to increasing to DV in support of future roadmap development.

Main Duties:

Work as a Principle Systems Engineer within an Agile software delivery team, involved in deployments across different disciplines to add value to the business area.

Role & Responsibilities:
  • Works with cross-functional teams and various stakeholders, including customers, end users, business analysts, development team, and user enablement
  • Define strategy and be central to assuring services
  • Regularly collaborate and find agreement with senior internal and external stakeholders, providing direction and challenge
  • Be proactive in identifying problems and translating these into non-technical descriptions that can be widely understood
  • Undertake structured analysis of technical issues, translating this analysis into technical designs that describe a solution
  • Identify opportunities to collaborate and reuse components, communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Mentor and coach junior colleagues
  • Lead the product functional design process based on an intimate knowledge of the users and technology
  • Support the Product Owner by, prioritises and maintains the sprint backlog, balancing the requirements of stakeholders
  • Responsible for maximising the value of the product by creation of and management of the detailed features and stories
  • Responsible for the creation and ownership of user stories for the development team and communicates the voice of the customer in the Scrum process.
  • Requirement analysis and management - from capturing customer requirements to developing requirement sets leading to actionable outcomes and value for the customer
  • Systems architecture and analysis - defining system architectures, analysing, and reporting on technical data together with an assessment of risk
  • Systems design and development - working both internally and closely with the existing strategic partnerships to develop technical solutions
  • Translates product roadmap features into well-defined product requirements including features, user stories, and acceptance test criteria
Candidate Requirements:

Essential skills
  • Previous experience of working in an Agile delivery team and producing and deploying applications in a production environment through a CI/CD pipeline.
Desirable skills of interest
  • Degree in STEM subject
  • Experience in Systems Engineering across the lifecycle of a software product
  • Proven track record of delivering solutions with a customer-first mind set
  • Established background in systems engineering technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques
  • Experience in authoring and managing requirements with industry standard toolsets (e.g. DOORS)
  • Understanding of software development lifecycles and the impact these have on requirements management
  • Experience of planning, estimating, and defining engineering tasks
  • Knowledge of development of Systems of Systems
  • Awareness of TOGAF
