Senior Software Engineer - Training Simulation

Summary of Role:
Raytheon UK are a leading International Defence & Security prime and are looking for a Simulation Software Engineer to support their rapidly expanding portfolio of training services.

The Simulation Software Engineer will be accountable for the research, development and evaluation of simulation software that will be used within Raytheon UK's training solutions. You will be part of the technical team proposing, developing and delivering the latest training technologies to current and future customers. You will report to the Training Transformation Technical Lead and support the Raytheon UK Training Transformation Services (TTS) Business.

In this role you will be a key contributor in Raytheon's bids and proposals, and follow-on delivery of the winning training solutions. The role will require experience in applying leading edge simulation technologies, methods and tools within enterprise-wide training solutions in either Defence, Public or Private sector.

The role can be based at any of Raytheon's main sites or at home. Regardless of main base location the successful candidate will need to travel across the UK to Raytheon and customer sites.

Main Duties:
  • Support the TTS Technical Lead in identifying and developing leading edge software simulation technologies, methods and tools that will enhance Raytheon's capabilities to secure future business within the training business.
  • Propose innovative, optimised solutions as part of the technical response for customer proposals, including joint proposals with suppliers and partners.
  • Application of simulation software to the training solution through all programme phases: initial concepts and demonstrations, bid and proposal, planning, execution and close.
  • Key member of the bid and proposals team, supporting collaborative, lasting relationships with customers, suppliers, and Raytheon colleagues.
  • Communicate proposals and software deliverables status, clearly and concisely to technical and non-technical stakeholders (Raytheon, customer and suppliers / partners)
  • Actively improve the capabilities and knowledge across the TTS business.
While this role sits within the engineering function, the key competencies and experience of the successful candidate are focussed on development on training

Essential:
  • Broad understanding and experience of modelling and simulation concepts and technologies.
  • Good understanding of the integration and interoperability of simulation software products.
  • Successfully developed and implemented simulation software to large-scale training solutions in established and new environments using new and emerging technologies in one or more of the following: augmented-reality, virtual-reality, gaming, training evaluation, within Defence, Public and/or Private Sector.
  • Experience in utilising latest software simulation technology, methods and tools in collective and individual training solutions developed within an industry-recognised methodology.
  • Understanding of IT infrastructure required for large-scale training solutions.
  • Collaborative individual who forges lasting relationships with internal cross-disciplined technical teams, customers and suppliers / partners.
  • Provide optimal solutions based upon sound reasoning and judgment, balancing technical and business constraints.
  • Good communication skills (written and oral) to articulate technical solutions to technical and non-technical audiences
Desirable:
  • Experience within UK Defence, Public Sector or Private Sector
  • Experience in planning and estimation within a training development environment
  • Development experience using C++, Java or C#
  • Experience with Atlassian tools (e.g. Jira, Confluence, GIT)
  • Member of a relevant Engineering / Computing / Training Professional Institution.
  • Must be willing and eligible to hold SC security clearance and possibly obtain DV clearance if required.
