Kubernetes Engineer

Who are we?
We are a highly disruptive cyber security provider that has invented a novel security
technology initially for the transportation sector, but with wide-reaching applications to
protect critical infrastructure across global markets.

We are a small, friendly team that loves to deliver cybersecurity solutions into a challenging environment and we do this with amazing people, the best tools and a culture of working together to solve
complex problems.

Will you be our next teammate to take on this challenge?

What will your role be?
Whilst we enjoy the rapid time to deploy new features in our cloud environment, some of our customers require the data sovereignty and network isolation that comes with on-premise deployments.
We need experienced engineers to build a first-class Kubernetes at the edge platform, on which our applications can be deployed. Our on-premise deployment is administered at arms-length, meaning low maintenance and air gapped updates, so knowing the pitfalls of such an environment is essential.

Tasks will include the following:
  • Developing our on-premise Kubernetes at the edge platform.
  • Improve interoperability of microservices between on-premise and cloud.
  • Automate the build, packaging, and testing of the on-premise product.
  • Implement processes and tolls to ensure availability of our on-premise products.
  • Coach and support other team members in developing for the on-premise platform.
  • Stay current with industry trends and source new ways for our business to improve.
  • Get involved with full-stack end-to-end delivery of new features and bug fixes.
  • Translating brief from design to clean, well written code.
  • Integrate our software with partner systems and provide technical support to customers where needed.
  • Maintaining internal and external documentation associated with the product, and internal development activities

Our hosting stack:
  • Languages: Python, HCL,YAML, bash/shell scripts.
  • Products: GCP, Kubernets, Micro8s/K3s/Minikube, DataDog, Sentry, Semaphore.
  • Tools: Helm,Terrform, Bazel, Ansible, Skaffold.

Who are we looking for?
  • Experienced engineer with delivering on-premise products based on Kubernetes.
  • Experience developing and deploying complex products and services built on a polyglot of languages and technologies.
  • Deep knowledge of our hosting stack and surrounding ecosystem.
  • Ability to communicate well with, and support other members of the team
  • Experience sharing knowledge.
  • Good working knowledge of Linux, git and the command-line.
  • Committed to high engineering standards.

Experience with any of these would be ideal:
  • Experience in developing in Python.
  • Attitude of continuous improvement.
  • Can design and communicate complex software architectures.
  • Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases.
  • Worked in a security function.
  • Google-fu.
  • Fluency in another spoken language.
  • The tactical mastery of Iron Man.
  • The detective skills of Miss Marple.
  • The situational awareness of Samus. (We'll hire you if you are Miss Marple, or Iron Man, or Samus.)

Practical requirements:
  • Living in the United Kingdom. Working from other countries is possible, via special arrangement.
  • Must be eligible to work in the UK.
  • Available for at least 4 days a week, preferably full-time.

What do we offer?
  • Challenging work in an interesting field with some awesome technology.
  • Being part of a fast-growing company with an energetic and dedicated team.
  • A culture focused on delivering high quality code while having fun.
  • Competitive salary and share options.
  • Generous equipment budget so our engineers work with the best tools available.
  • Pension and flexible holiday arrangements.
