Role Purpose:

The Performance and Controls Engineer will be responsible for
developing technical solutions for missile actuation, thrust vectoring and associated subsystems by performing trade studies, design performance analysis, modelling, integration, and test of control systems in the support of the development and build of advanced electro-mechanical systems.

Responsibility extends across the entire life cycle of the product, from conceptualizing and design, to prototyping and manufacturing, integration, and verification testing, through production support.

You will be expected to apply sound control systems engineering principles to solve complex system problems while collaborating across multi-functional teams and interfacing with internal and external customers during all phases of the design, integration, test, and production.

You will support new business opportunities and develop key customer relationships. You will also contribute to the development of the CAS VS engineering strategy, including a technology roadmap and new business opportunities in conjunction with Business Development.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Computer modelling and simulation of actuation systems
  • Development of mathematical algorithms for actuation control systems
  • Servo control system integration and test
  • Technical presentations to both internal and external customer
  • Identification of strategic needs and opportunities for the CAS VS
  • Identify new technologies and support implementation
  • Support to creation of customer proposals and presentations for new business opportunities
  • Support to resolve production test failures and introduce corrective actions
  • Work in collaboration with other Value Streams to identify synergies, best practices, and opportunities.
Experience and Skills:
  • Qualified to Degree level in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • 10+ years Systems/Controls Engineering Experience
  • Knowledge in servo control systems
  • Experience with analytics, MATLAB/Simulink
  • Ability to objectively define and implement complex failure investigations
  • Well-structured report and presentation creation
  • Structured and organised; good planning, reporting and communication skills - able to lead problem solving and investigation activities quickly to a successful conclusion and within expected timescales
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Knowledge of electromechanical drives using brushless motors
  • Knowledge of mechanical drive systems, namely lead screws, linkages, gear drive trains
  • Knowledge of nonlinearities, namely friction, backlash
  • Knowledge of various types of sensors, namely LVDT, potentiometers, solenoid drives
