Role summary

This role is to provide support to Project Finances across the National Security business, an Account within Digital Intelligence that generates annual revenues of ~£200m.

As a Project Accountant you will build strong relationships with the Delivery Community - both facilitating the generation of Project Financials, as well as robustly challenging the inputs. You will be commercially astute, and able to assess and quantify the risks and opportunities associated with live Contracts. A keen eye for detail, you will ensure that Project Financial data is accurate and complete, and that monthly Reports stand up to scrutiny. This role will sit within the National Security Finance team initially, then will move to the FP&A department in the next 12 months as part of Finance Modernisation. The scope of the role itself however will essentially remain the same.

This is a hybrid role meaning that there will be a mixture of home and office working. The role is based from our Gloucester site, with office visits on average once a fortnight. Occasional UK travel may be required.

What you'll do
  • Work closely with Project Managers to generate financial reports such as the CSR (Contract Status Report), and review others such as the SSR (Summary Status Report).
  • Attend PRBs (Project Review Boards) to discuss Project Finances, and provide constructive challenge on Project performance.
  • Offer objective financial advice and opinions that positively impact future decisions on Projects.
  • Challenge project assumptions such as resourcing, phasing of work to be completed, and cost estimates.
  • Review the Opportunity and Risk logs to ensure they are up to date, reasonable, contain appropriate mitigations, and reconcile to contingencies held on Projects.
  • Ensure that key financial data on Projects is valid, e.g. Contract Selling Price, and that reconciliations exist where there are additional complexities to consider (e.g. multiple Contract Change Notes).
  • Support in the calculation of Gainshare or Fixed Capacity liabilities in line with the Contract.
  • Review trading margins to ensure they are appropriate, and take into account any unfactored risks if necessary.
  • Reconcile Project Ordebook calculations back to the system, and investigate any discrepancies.
  • Review WIP and Debt to ensure no irregularities exist.
  • Ensure that the Projects you support operate an appropriate and effective set of financial controls, and are in line with good accounting practice.
  • Support wider financial activities across the rest of the National Security Account where appropriate.

What we're looking for

  • Our ideal candidate will be qualified however we can also consider QBE, part qualified or finalists
  • Project Accounting experience preferred
  • Ability to influence others
  • High attention to detail
  • Record of implementing and maintaining robust financial controls
  • Experience of working to tight timescales and consistently meeting deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross function team and at various seniority levels in the organisation
  • Eligible for UK Security Clearance
