Job Details

Role: Senior Supplier Quality Engineer
Location: Hybrid Working, must be willing to travel to a primary location

Reporting directly to the Supplier Quality Assurance Manager (SQM) and/or SQE Lead, responsible for delivering Supplier Quality Assurance in line with the Quality Management System and Quality Policy across the Weapons and Sensors (W&S) business unit.
Working as part of a team of Senior Supplier Quality Engineers (SQEs), conducting day to day activities whilst engaging with key stakeholders across Production and the Supply Chain teams.
Responsible for ensuring that Supplier Quality continues to develop and implement best practice that emphasise defect prevention, reduction in variation and waste and provide for continuous improvements and continue to meet quality standards required to minimise quality costs and maximise customer satisfaction whilst ensuring that procedures and processes are adhered to.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategy and Development:
  • Support the W&S SQE team, focusing on individual development plans, to continuously elevate the team's capability and service.
  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational performance.
  • Contribute to new business initiatives and projects and review and communicate the impact on Supplier Quality activities.
General and Task Management:
  • Deputise for the SQM/SQE Lead where necessary.
  • Assist with supplier quality development strategy, designing the metrics for the function and supplier performance.
  • Ensure the Supplier Quality Assurance audit schedule is managed and executed effectively.
  • Support new product launches to ensure Suppliers are capable of delivering to the required quality standards.
  • Manage the root cause analysis and corrective actions (RCCA) process of supplier quality issues in line with AS13000, ensuring a collaborative approach with Suppliers during RCCA investigations and ensuring responses are closed in a timely manner.
  • Lead APQP/PPAP supplier flow down activities in collaboration with Engineering and Supply Chain.
  • Perform on-site visits for root cause analysis and verification of corrective actions issues.
  • Review and evaluate Supplier Quality data to identify process improvement opportunities within the supply chain.
  • Ensure compliance and assist with adherence to the Quality Management System.
  • Work in partnership with SCM to ensure changes that may affect supply and demand and support required mitigation activities.
  • Monitor current and developing manufacturing and engineering trends that may impact product quality.
  • Undertake personal and drive the teams continuous training and development.
Relationship Management:
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance.
  • Negotiate and engage with key stakeholders to facilitate delivery and compliance with the Supplier Quality strategy.
  • Assist in the supplier approval process by assessing manufacturing / technology capabilities and Health, Safety and Environmental risks.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams in the development of new products or changes related to current products in meeting customer requirements.

Qualifications and Experience Levels:
  • Relevant degree is preferred, or HND, BTec Professional Level 5 Award or equivalent NVQ Level 5 qualifications.
  • Experience of Defence and Aerospace Industries.
  • Hands on experience of AS9145 - APQP and PPAP.
  • Experience with applying Six Sigma and Lean principles
  • Experience of dealing with customers and suppliers.
  • Able to obtain and maintain Security Clearance.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional body would be advantageous
