Summary of Role:
Raytheon Portsmouth Office has an opportunity for an experienced System Security Engineer within the Naval System Engineering function. The function is responsible for the design and delivery of network-based systems as part of Integrated Navigation and Bridge Systems for Naval Ships. The successful candidate will ideally be qualified to expert level in System Security practices and techniques and is responsible for providing expertise for the security of network infrastructures and key projects and programmes and input to the design and operation of customer deliverable LAN/WAN infrastructures.

Main Duties:

System Security Management
Take a leading role in development and maintenance of the organisation's System Security Management System, processes and procedures.
Coordination of System Security related matters between Anschuetz offices in Portsmouth and Kiel
Keep up to date with UK MOD and regulatory system security regulations and best practice.

System Security Engineering
Provide System Security Engineering Services for Maritime Surveillance Systems projects and Naval Bridge Systems projects from bid phase through to support phase including:
  • Work with the Technical Project Manager to ensure that security is at the heart of all new systems.
  • Design and implementation of innovative safe and secure network solutions that comply with MOD policies on Naval Platforms.
  • Taking the lead on projects and bids, providing cyber security advice and guidance to all stakeholders, engineers, technical authorities, project managers, the wider business and customer communities, throughout the whole project lifecycle and at all classifications.
  • Interpreting security guidance and requirements from external sources.
  • Supports critical activities associated with the network infrastructure design, configuration and test. Including switching, routing, encryption, security, optimisation, VLAN, VM.
  • Performing security risk assessments using methodologies to identify and prioritise cyber security and cyber resilience risks, controls and mitigations to manage those risks.
  • Producing security documentation such as RMADS and SyOPs.
  • Responsible for all aspects of technical network configuration and device hardening across hardware, software, cabling, bandwidth engineering, configuration planning, administration, and support of data and voice communications networks.
  • Achieving and maintaining security accreditations or assurance as required, including assessing the impact to security of all proposed changes.
  • Scoping and managing testing by external penetration test companies and ensuring remediation activity is performed to completion.
  • Supporting security within the supply chain, including meeting the requirements of the Defence Cyber Protection Partnership plus our own company initiatives.
  • Engage with stakeholders, including the CyDR Accreditor and Security Assurance Coordinator, to ensure that the security solution is accreditable whilst imposing minimal burdens on the development programme and end users.
  • Engaging with stakeholders, engineering teams and sub-contractors to provide direction, guidance and support on acceptable and balanced information security solutions.
Candidate Requirements:

Essential:
  • Deep knowledge of network systems, including design, troubleshooting, infrastructure (hardware, software and telecommunications), maintenance and operations.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Information assurance systems engineering and development practices.
  • Relevant education in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
  • Active in the security community. Regularly attends meetups or conferences.
  • Ability to articulate security advice directly to key stakeholders within both the business and the customer community.
  • Knowledge and solid understanding of industry best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence technical experts in other technical competencies.
  • SC cleared or the ability to become SC cleared.
Desirable:
  • Prior experience of defence or highly regulated technical industry.
  • CCP, CISSP, CISM or similar, GCHQ Certified Degree, ex-CLAS.
  • Familiarity with the Defence Assurance Risk Tool (DART) and its methodology.
  • Defence, systems or software engineering background.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).
  • CISCO IOS knowledge.
  • Knowledge or experience in HMG
    IAS1&2 or similar security risk assessment methodology, JSP440/JSP604/JSP490
    , NCSC guidance, NIST, ISO 27001 and industry-standard security frameworks.
  • Knowledge of and experience with implementation of ISO27001.
  • Experience of security risk assessments, risk treatment plans, and accreditation document sets (SRA/SRS/SAD and/or RMADS).
