The post holder will be a member of the IT Security Team, responsible for the daily monitoring and reporting of cyber threats, hazards, risks, controls, measures and mitigations to protect IWM systems and staff.

Purpose of the job:

The post holder will proactively monitor all output from various security systems ensuring that the IWM is always protected from cyber threats and downtime is minimised. They will assist the IT Security Analyst to ensure that all IWM sites, services, servers and staff devices are adequately patched against vulnerabilities, identifying priorities and ensuring communication within IT and the wider IWM is completed in a timely fashion.

This role will help to develop a higher level of awareness and understanding across the teams.

You will focus at all times on delivering exceptional customer service to a wide range of internal customers, volunteers and external partners or suppliers. Ensuring that the nature of IT security is understood and adhered to at every level.

You will be expected to work independently and liaise with IT teams in order to ensure the IWM can continue to deliver the business priorities, whilst ensuring compliance and communication is at the appropriate level.

Salary:

£22,440 per annum.

Key duties:

The role will require a blend of technical and non-technical skills in order to fulfil these responsibilities including (but not limited to):
  • Defining, implementing and enforcing Security policies and procedures across the IWM.
  • Identifying cyber vulnerabilities in IWM systems to ensure security is maintained. The regular patching/remediation of all systems as per IWM standards, in line with Cyber Essentials.
  • Research and investigation of attack techniques to develop responses to new and emerging threats, supporting and following the security incident response process as required.
  • Understanding IWM's wider IT environment and ensuring security systems and tools provide adequate defence and coverage of IWM assets.
  • Support of cyber security risk assessments, annual cyber security audits and continual development of cyber security incident management.
  • Assist with the creation of documentation and reports for Security processes and procedures and subsequently ensuring all documentation is kept up to date to maintain Cyber Essentials.
  • Help develop, define and enforce standards and best practices for IWM security systems, ensuring they are configured and maintained correctly.
  • Develop appropriate code or scripts to assist with maintaining compliance.
  • Identify and propose security process improvements and identify opportunities for new processes and procedures to reduce risk in accordance with IWM policies and standards.
  • Assist with cyber threat table top exercises as required and develop an understanding of the current threat landscape using the appropriate platforms or information sources.
  • Maintaining and troubleshooting technical security systems and escalate any issues/incidents appropriately.
  • Maintaining visibility of all changes across the IT security estate following the change management processes.
  • Assuring all services are maintained to meet or exceed the requirements of IWM.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the information security strategy.
  • Embrace a culture of continuous service improvement and service excellence.
  • Contribute to the investigation of major breaches of security and recommend appropriate control improvements.

What we are looking for:
  • Strong analytical skills
  • A methodical step-by-step approach to resolving issues
  • Business skills like effective communication, teamwork and task/time management
  • The adaptability to do a range of work-sometimes complex and non-routine in different environments
  • The ability to work under direction, use discretion and determine when to escalate issues
  • Some experience of Windows Server & Linux operating systems. Including patching and remediation.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills to both document and communicate complex concepts in a comprehensive, but understandable way to non-technical staff.
  • Some understanding of IT Security trends and emerging threats

Any of the following would be beneficial:
  • Experience or working in a Technical Support Role.
  • Some understanding of IT Security terminology such as SIEM/Log Management.
  • Understanding of information security principles frameworks, best practice and statutory regulations (e.g., GDPR, PCI-DSS, Cyber Essentials, ISO27001 etc.)

Entry requirements:

The entry requirements for this programme are as follows:
  • An A-Level in ICT
  • OR an International Baccalaureate at Level 3 in ICT
  • OR a Level 3 apprenticeship in a similar subject
  • OR a BTEC Extended Diploma in IT (180 credits)
