Job Details

Purpose of the Role:
As a global aerospace company at the forefront of technology development for aircraft electrification and electric propulsion systems, we are looking for a Principal Engineer to lead the engineering work packages for the design and development of rotating electrical equipment projects - either new products from concept through to entry into service or supporting existing products.

Role Requirements
Lead the engineering activity from the concept through development and qualification into production;
  • Production of Design Schemes, including CAD models assemblies and 2D drawings for concept and detail designs of electrical machines.
  • Conduct design calculations such as interference fits, thermal growths, hoop and tensile stresses, thread loadings and tolerance analysis to support concept and detail designs.
  • Work within an integrated product team, liaising closely with other project team members such as stress, manufacturing, sourcing and configuration with respect to new designs or design changes.
  • Operate in accordance with Collins Aerospace procedures and lead the necessary design reviews. Be able to provide process guidance to more junior designers.
  • The production of design assurance documentation.
  • Own work packages and be responsible for reporting on their progress and ensuring satisfactory milestone compliance with agreed targets to support project needs and timescales.
  • Support project development, ensuring the technical integrity of the product and that it meets all performance, reliability, cost and safety requirements.
  • Provide support to other team members in completion of their activities.
Skills & Experience
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a track record of technical leadership, experience in the design and development of rotating machinery or other similar areas.
  • Should be educated to Degree or equivalent level in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Familiarity with the principles of Design To Cost and Design for Manufacture
  • Must have an understanding of engineering materials and production methods relevant to them.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate, formally and informally with peer group, other team members, suppliers and customers.
  • Good time management, proactive with the ability to plan work efficiently to meet agreed milestones.
  • Ability to produce and deliver technical presentations to employees and customers at any level.
