Role summary (Mat leave cover - 10-12 months)

As Finance Manager, you will be a key member of the Key Accounts (International Government) leadership team, responsible for financial control and delivering profitable growth.

This role requires a particular emphasis on strategic business partnering as the Key Accounts (International Government) team focus on their global future growth and delivery of key programmes.

The role will be based from our Guildford or Gloucester offices, working on a hybrid basis with attendance at the office a couple of times per month in line with business requirments

What you'll be doing

The key accountabilities of the role include:

  • Work closely with and influence senior management to help drive business performance and actively shape the strategy of the regions under your remit.
  • Improve the impact and understanding of financial KPIs to business outcomes ensuring high quality financial decisions are taken.
  • Effectively share external perspectives and good practice to help deliver measurable improvements in the approach to decision making, value for money and risk management.
  • Provide objective financial advice and opinions that positively impact the future choices available to the business.
  • Identify and drive financial efficiency with senior management ensuring that resources are allocated effectively with rigorous pressure on costs and commitment to a value for money approach.
  • Commercial approach to bids, ability to identify and articulate complex areas of the bid whilst focusing on key areas of risk with appropriate mitigation plans translating into financials.
  • Own your decisions and outcomes of bids in line with your DOA. Actively seek support from the business to ensure optimal decisions are made e.g. Tax and Treasury strategies.
  • Challenge business development activities in terms of alignment to business strategy, realism of opportunities and associated investment and the likelihood and level of financial returns versus risk.
  • Proactive approach with risks and opportunities on financial ownership for the planning, forecasting and management of revenues and cost.
  • Development of colleagues in core finance skills, whether within the function or outside, to ensure appropriate practices are followed, shaping the finance function of the future.
  • Ensure that the area under your control operate an appropriate and effective set of financial controls and ensure the overall integrity of the accounts in line with good accounting practice. Demonstrate this in internal reviews such as SSRs and Working Capital as well as to External Audit when required.
  • Building and maintaining good, trusted stakeholder relationships across the two accounts. Dealing well with different time zones and 20+ countries.
  • Responsibility for the products account and ensuring financial management over stock. Managing products spend as well as stock on the balance sheet.
  • Build strong relationships and influence the key decisions that improve business performance from Orders to profit and cash generation.

What we're looking for

  • Post qualified experience is needed with reliable financial knowledge to ensure projects are being accounted for correctly.
  • Existing bid experience to ensure that financial considerations (e.g. tax, FX exposure, bank guarantees, ECI, etc.) are well understood and represent the optimal viable outcome for the business.
  • An understanding of systems and processes used within the business.
  • Being a strong finance business partner to the areas of the business requires good knowledge and expertise about how each area works and the external factors that affect them. Continually develop your understanding of the business so that you can influence Business Development and Delivery activities.
  • Influencing skills will be required for indirect management of the Business Accounting & Control (BAC) representative. As a Finance Business Partner you will also be required to provide guidance and training to PMs/PMO where needed re finances and Lifecycle Management requirements.
  • The business unit operates across several countries (UK, US, Malaysia as well as several other regional countries); as such the team requires strong financial leadership to solve the nuances involved in operating across multiple regions and entities (e.g. tax, intercompany transactions, FX exposure and handling, export credit insurance, bank guarantees etc.).
  • You need to be able to build strong relationships to succeed as a finance business partner. Therefore working well with people and forming relationships is really important for this role. You need to influence key stakeholders and by building a strong relationship it gives you the foundations to do that.
