Job: Senior Quality Engineer
Location: Must be willing to travel to Harlow, with Hybrid working options

Senior Supervising Quality Engineer for the Weapons Business Area.

The Raytheon UK Weapons team has a fantastic opportunity for a new team member to come join them to assist in delivering complex and high-profile programmes to customers based in both the UK and around the World. This opportunity offers a Quality Engineer the opportunity to learn about new technologies in the world of defence. It also offers excellent opportunities to grow and develop in a challenging and rewarding environment, supported by a fantastic, close-knit multi-functional team.

This team works with cutting edge technology and offers the opportunity to contribute to global security whilst also learning and developing your own skills and knowledge. Together the team delivers a varied range of programmes, including production, development, integration, and support. This work can be to military customers directly, or through other key defence companies, providing plenty of opportunity to learn and develop a wide range of skills and experience whilst progressing within the business. The team also covers a wide area of specialisms, from Laser Directed Energy Weapons to creating the next generation weapon using the latest digital twinning technology.

As well as developing within the business, Raytheon UK also encourages its employees to get involved in one of our Employee Resource Groups. These groups are an integral part of our diversity and inclusion journey and are key to maintaining a rich diverse talent base; more details of the groups can be found online. We also encourage all employees to take advantage of 5 full days of volunteering leave to allow them to focus on social causes that impact their local community. We also support flexible working hours, which can be negotiated to suit both the business and employee to help balance busy lives.

This business works in a complex engineering and legislative environment and requires someone who can work effectively with the wider team to deliver results, whilst motivating those around them to ensure the programmes' quality needs are met.
Working within the Weapons team, as part of the wider Weapons and Sensors business unit, the successful candidate will manage the quality demands of technically challenging programmes. Establishing and growing an effective relationship with the customers' Quality representatives and other key stakeholders is critical. Success will require innovative thinking, forward planning, and an ability to react quickly to changes. As a valuable member of the team, identifying quality risks and progressing the work toward successful product delivery, whilst working collaboratively with the wider Quality Function and company is important to the success of this role. There will be significant exposure and excellent opportunity to advance within the company.

As part of the day-to-day activities the role requires delivery of the Weapons programmes' Quality products and ensuring on-time deliveries to customer satisfaction; there will also be a need to support the other Quality Team members during periods of holiday etc. There will be opportunities to take on wider activities across the company, and a broad interest in what the wider Company does would be a highly desirable quality.

Below are both the Essential and Desirable candidate qualities. At Raytheon our priority is culture: we are keen to hear from people with the right attitude, values and willingness to learn, therefore even if you feel you do not meet the majority of the qualities, we still encourage you to apply.

This Weapons programme Quality role involves:
  • Working closely with all functions, especially Programme Management Supply Chain and Engineering, to provide support and plan for future Quality Assurance activities.
  • Weekly engagement with programme management to ensure communication channels are maintained and the programme's quality tasks are on track
  • Creation of regular customer and internal quality reports and updates.
  • The opportunity to attend face-to-face meetings with customers in the UK and overseas
  • Ensuring that customer deliveries are of the highest standard.
  • Support the preparation of the internal programme review process.
  • Preparing the Quality Assurance submissions toward bids and proposals within the Weapons domain.
  • Conduct of audits within the Weapons and Sensors domains.
  • Completion of Quality assessments and reviews of programme deliverables in accordance with relevant standards.
Essential Candidate Qualities:
  • A self-starting and confident team player who works well with others and inspires them to follow in their example.
  • Able to establish and nurture productive relationships, both internally and externally.
  • Supportive, with the character to navigate sensitive and pressurised situations to overcome Programme challenges.
  • An ability to work self-sufficiently to deliver on agreed goals
  • Can anticipate problems, and work with the team to identify innovative and logical solutions, and then to confidently enact them.
  • An able communicator in verbal, written and presentation forms to all audiences.
  • Able to manage and work within agreed budgets.
  • Unafraid to challenge and question.
  • Able and willing to travel to customers and suppliers within the UK and overseas.
Desirable Candidate Qualities:
  • Interest in Aerospace and/or Defence.
  • A Quality Engineering background.
  • Knowledge of Quality Standards (i.e. ISO9001, AS9100, AQAP).
  • Degree level qualification or equivalent.
The work will be based out of Harlow with national and international travel requirements.

Hybrid working is possible but there will be a need to be on-site in Harlow at least two days per week to support deliveries.
