We are currently on the lookout for a Design Engineer to join the team in Havant site.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Control of projects from initial conception through to customer acceptance.
  • Working to Program plans, must be able to manage time effectively on a multitude of running projects at any one time.
  • Ownership, responsibility and accountability for all customer based projects.
  • Analyse and review customer inputs such as; drawings, 3D CAD, specifications and any other related supplied data to determine design criteria and factors.
  • Prepare and communicate Engineering outputs including; drawings, 3D CAD, bills of materials (BOM's) plus any other identified and related specification or technical/certification documentation to support the procurement, manufacture, final test, reliability, conformity, qualification or similarity of products and systems designed.
  • Perform or seek (as required), relevant calculations, tolerance studies and finite element analysis (FEA) to compute and establish manufacturing conditions, boundaries and requirements to support design data.
  • Undertake drawing checking (peer review), including proof reading and checking of manufacturing layouts and technical/certification documentation.
  • Modify designs to correct operating deficiencies, test failures and/or reduce production issues or customer changes until approved and accepted.
  • Work with New Product Introduction (NPI) and Manufacturing Engineer (MED) to ensure Design for Manufacuring and Assembly (DfMA) is met.
  • Manage effective use of the Engineering Change Control (ECN) process.
  • Manage and ownership of the Value Stream Gate (VSG) process.
  • Manage and ownership of the Technical Design Reviews (TRB) process.
  • Liaise and provide all team disciplines with relevant information to support creation of Layouts, PCB Circuits, and Technical/Certification documentation.
  • Carry out validation and verification (V&V) activities as appropriate to ensure compliance of product and data for new products or systems.
  • Liaise with all relevant departments throughout the project life-cycle to ensure a smooth and efficient introduction of the product into the business.
Essential Key Skills / Experience:
  • An excellent understanding and proven history of Design and Development.
  • CAD literate: Solidworks, ideally with SW Passport
  • Computer literate: word, project etc.
  • Hands on person; capable of building prototypes, modifications to parts, evaluation, testing, running SLA/FDM machines etc.
  • Understand complex problems, effective problem solving and collaborate with others to provide effective solutions.
  • Ability to work with limited information, proactively track down requirements, and keep projects moving and the customer satisfied.
  • Ability to work to tight and pressured deadlines.
  • Ability to work on own initiative with minimal supervision.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strive for 'right first time' attitude.
  • Results orientated with the ability to organise, prioritise and work on multiple projects simultaneously and manage schedules and deadlines accordingly.
  • Well-developed strong interpersonal skills and a confident team player.
  • Advocate positive team concept and values at all times (team player).
  • A commitment to excellence within the workplace.
Qualifications, Experience and Essentials:
  • Desired; Engineering Degree (BEng, MEng or equivalent) with hands on working experience in a related industry.
  • Considered; HNC/HND or Apprenticeship background in an Engineering Product Design and Manufacturing environment with hands on working experience.
  • Must have a driving license
  • Must have a passport and be willing and enable travel.
