Typical Roles/Area of Focus:

As the Value Stream Advanced Manufacturing Engineer, you will be responsible for providing both technical and strategic direction associated with new and emerging manufacturing technologies to drive improvements to the VS performance. You will work alongside, Digital, Supply Chain, Quality, Engineering and Operational Excellence to support the identification of manufacturing digital technology solutions, aligned with business strategic planning. You will be responsible for the Value Stream technology road map implementation plans and will act as the technical point of escalation and problem resolution for the project teams throughout the definition, design and implementation phases. The technology solutions identified must be implemented in line with other CI initiatives in the area.

You will be a key active member of the Actuation Systems I4.0 community of practice, working alongside other Actuation value streams to share knowledge, lessons learned and standard practice in the field of automation, robotics and digital factory. Be a hands on contributor in order to support your immediate area of expertise around Automation, robotics and Digitalisation through all product life cycle phases including technology, npi, industrialization and production. Seen as a leading expert in the field there is a requirement to support the advancement of knowledge within the discipline, through activities such as the delivery of training and benchmark alignment with the wider industry (including:- research and innovation centres, industry catapults, interest/working groups, conferences, etc.)

Level of Responsibility:
  • Value stream responsibility for advanced manufacturing technologies to achieve excellence in operational performance in terms of strategy, identification, specification, acquisition, and deployment (productivity & technology). Focused on driving a manufacturing ecosystem that is recognized as the sites competitive advantage.
  • Have experience of delivery of automation and robotic solutions, with demonstratable programming and delivery skills.
  • Develop relationships and work closely with equipment and solution providers, to develop and implement appropriate technology solutions for your Value Stream.
  • Deliver the Value Stream Manufacturing Technology Roadmaps, in support of Manufacturing Technology development, acquisition and deployment including robust application of the Manufacturing Readiness (MRL) process across your value stream
  • Ensure alignment between value stream and site with BU and Collins and drive standardization of solutions
  • Recognized within the Actuation Systems Manufacturing Engineering community in achieving manufacturing systems excellence through a thorough and fresh understanding of technology trends across Collins and industry and their relevance and applicability to site of responsibility.
  • Actively support the EH&S policy and applicable regulatory and company EH&S rules and requirements through the management of the risk management process, proactively removing risk from our manufacturing processes, especially where their sub-discipline is concerned.
  • Understand and adhere to company compliance policies including but not limited to Ethics and Compliance to promote and support our culture and compliance expectations
  • Understand and adhere to company compliance policies that impact the Manufacturing Engineering function
Educational Requirements and Industry Experience:
  • Good background in identification, design, and deployment of Automation, Digital systems in a manufacturing environment
  • HNC/HND or a Bachelor's Degree , in a relevant Manufacturing Engineering discipline
  • Training on robot / automation programming packages would be advantageous
  • Demonstrable experience in a manufacturing engineering environment, ideally within the aerospace or automotive industry
  • A strong working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or CI
  • Able to tailor leadership style to the audience and situation
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Creative and open minded, effective problem solver
  • Flexible and able to work on own initiative
  • Thorough, tenacious and persuasive utilising strong influencing skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to make effective decisions under pressure
