As a leader in the aerospace industry, we have a number of exciting positions available right now, including a Composites Materials & Process Engineer in our Seating business located in Kilkeel, Northern Ireland.
The successful candidate can expect to:
- Be responsible for identifying, down-selecting, qualifying, and documenting within the applicable specifications new materials & processes which offer cost / weight / quality improvements to the composite products we engineer for use within the aircraft interior. In addition, the role is responsible for supporting the flammability certification of composite materials.
- work closely with the Engineering Teams providing subject matter expertise to ensure that developed products minimise materials, process, flammability risk and meet test requirements.
- Develop material allowable specification values using statistical analysis.
- Drive direction, collaboration and knowledge sharing on all matters relating to flammability performance, compliance, and material qualification within the wider organisation.
- Operate as a technical expert on composite materials; provide technical support, both internal and external to further understanding and minimise the risk of certification failures on all new and current programs.
- Support initiatives to identify and develop new or improved materials and processes, and associated data for the design, manufacture, and certification of composite panels.
- Lead root cause and corrective action problem solving projects in a team environment.
- Contribute to the culture of continuous improvement within the department.
- Technical Expertise: recognized subject matter expert in their field or discipline.

- Ensure performance delivery against key targets/metrics and quality standards (deliver the Master Production Schedule and related KPI's)

What you need to succeed?
Essential Criteria:
- A degree level qualification or higher in Materials, Chemistry, Aeronautical, Mechanical Engineering or related with a minimum of two years working experience or three years research experience in Composites, Materials, Chemistry, Engineering or related.
- In the absence of a degree in Engineering or Material Science (or related) a minimum of nine years' working or research experience within the area of composites materials.
- A minimum of one years working or research experience in material characterisation and mechanical testing.
- A minimum of two years' working or research experience with material qualification and the generation of material allowable values for design.
- A minimum of three years' working experience in composite honeycomb sandwich panels gained within an Engineering or Manufacturing environment.
- A minimum of two years working or research experience in aerospace certification.
- A minimum of one years working or research experience in the flammability of materials.
